Dimarzios along with Seymour Duncans?

Greetings,
I recently got a SD Custom Custom (SH11) , and I was planning to buy a SD Cool Rails/ Jb Jr. for the neck. However, Davis doesnt have them in stock and is not sure when the next shipment will arrive.

I guess I have no option but to look at Dimarzios for the neck. I'm using a Cort 250g (HSS) strat style guitar, basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. I want a fatter/smoother tone at the neck, with more sustain than my stock pups. Considering that the SD Custom Custom is rather high output, which Dimarzio pup would you recommend?
Are there likely to be any matching problems or should I just wait for the new SDs to arrive (and go crazy in the process.. oh well I'm nearly there already  )

Thanks!

You might want to try a SD custom staggered. Big fat tones with little loss of classic singlecoil glass/chime. It's singlecoil though.

Finding it really hard to choose between the different neck pups .. looks like I can get SD pups from US - roughly costs the same with shipping.

Will the Cool rails be way too hot on the neck or is the tone just going to be much warmer with more mids?

If i use the push-pull on the tone knob to split between the humbucker and neck, will I get something close to a single coil tone for something like a Protrack / Rails pickup?

I don't understand this. Short of reducing the magnet pull (weaker pups) or using a sustainer/ebow or using a compressor, how does a pup increase sustain. :)

More output and less magnet pull can add to perceived sustain.

My recocmendation is a Dimarzio fast track 1.

Personally use 1 and and very happy with it.

Very nice chimy clean tones and fattens up under gain.

The topic of pickups came up and i thot i just like to share my recent discovery ... i'm not a pups person and doesnt really understand the output thingy ... i only know that the neck pups and bridge pups got differents ..

How much is the SD or Dimarzio pups ? always i see ppl mention about pups ... only 2 brands came to mind ... :)

mine is a Washburn with H-S-S ... recently i've change my full set of pups to SKY pups (Korean - Origin from US Kent Armstrong) (here's the web - http://www.kentarmstrong.com/) and i'm really happy with it ... it's now a H-H-H (2 single change to Hum) ... neck and mid can be clean and clear, got a more chuckier mid sound when boosted and bridge has a more higher output ( ??? ) yeah, more sustain ... but it do sounds better .. :D

i wud think it's much more cheaper than the above 2 brands ... and not trying to advertise but i really think KC has done a great job for it ... i've got it done at GC ...

Always felt that higher output pickups had a lot more sustain - maybe that's just my perception of the sound - but you get the basic idea of what I'm looking at :)

higher output almost always means more magnet pull on the strings. Your natural sustain will be affected... You probably percieved the extra "sustain" due to the extra compression a hi output pup produces. Try playing clean... and you'll find your sustain sucked out by the power magnets.

Exceptions include Dimazio's Air pups, and EMGs.

Yea.. Shred cow has a point..

But i dont think we can really generalise it all the time. Pickup windings, magnets wire gauge all make a difference. But there still is a slight general pattern.

Hope you got the suggestions.

before you tread the Dimarzio path, maybe you should consider Duncan's Hot Stack. many single coil purists avoid this pickup simply because it's a rail-type & stacked unit, until you hear what it has to offer. it has one of the most impressive twang & single note definition + its quiet, stacked nature, will win fans of high gain drive.

however, it doesn't possess a smooth/ polished tone, in fact, it'll rival any fender single coils in terms of an open-sounding strat voicing. i happen to come across this pickup by accident actually but it has since become one of my best acquisition. have it in my Ibanez S540.

dont mind my ignorance question ...

the diff of high output / Distortion pups ... does that means it can have higher output when tweak with certain amp ?? sharper sound, rite ?

and the pup with distortion ... it will has distortion by itself or gotta have distortion pedals to 'boost' that pup ??

that goes with the rest of the pups as well ... ???

thank u.

thats on way.. but imo duncans are a lot warmer for some reason.. dimarzios are a lot more cutting with more presence.. btw, my guitar has an odd combination of duncans and dimarzios too... evo in the bridge, screamin demon in the neck...

I believe Davis will have the new stock of Seymour Duncans tomorrow. :D Woo hoo.
I just can't wait to put the Custom Custom into my guitar..

SpaTanS - Distortion provided by a pickup alone - a higher output pickup will drive the amp more as compared to a vintage pickup. Adding a pedal to it can increase the gain if you really need it. Just check out the sound samples on Duncan's site - it's not a bad guide given that all samples play the same lick through same amp settings.

Hi all,
I have a Pacifica 112 and i which to replace the pickups.
SInce Dimarzio are on avergae $150, i would choose to go for seymour duncans instead.
The PU are S-S-H.
I play Christian Rock most of the time.
Any suggestions on which pickups shd i get that will give me the best combi?
