Dilema (Amps)

hmm... lol serious 100w is.. uber uber uber mega big haha...

hmm... headache ahhh. no amp now. suffering :(

Haha.....should try the smarvo 40watt then. Also 12 inch speaker, but the low end sound is not strong as the power is only at 40watt. But the price is sweet, cheaper than marshall MG15CDR. If you commit, I can let you have it at a little more discount. PM me.

I don't think the AVT 20 will lose tone at low volumes... I believe only amps will power amp tubes will need to be cranked up. Correct me if I'm wrong, a preamp tube only warms up the sound... nothing much.

I was just speculating from what newbie has said about owning one before. To speculate further, it's possible that amp could have a worn out tube. Other possibility could be the way the circuit was designed, also could even be the guitar in question that was plugged into the amp.

I also suspect it's not losing of tone, but rather scooping in the tone freq filitering, from a combination of possibilities.

Worn out tube? Hmm... So tube amps need constantly changing of tubes? to ensure... the "freshness" in the sound?

lol i dont think mike will say. dont ask liao la. haha. i think its that brand left only lor... do u see other brands? =/ maybe i miss out or something.. i think tts the only brand left.

Sweelee has A LOT of brands of amps, just if you notice them or not only. That's why they are the biggest music supplier around here.

Tubes have a short lifespan as opposed to transistor which suppose to "last forever". The lifespan is very very subjective to what kind of tube, what brand, what circuit it's used, how it's used....etc.

Think of it like a light bulb filament, it 'burns' when you use it, and eventually burnt out. For tube we call it plate stripping.

Some tubes in certain amp model will last very long eg. 5-10yr, but some will be short 1-3yr. Gigging amps have shorter lifespan due to heavy usage.

Not to be mistaken, transistor also got lifespan, but if you use it within reccomended limitation, it will definately out last the capacitors on same circuit. Same, overdriving it will result in failure sooner than expected.

Ohhh... Thats why erm.. Metal gigs the amps, "spoil" faster in a sense, cause sometime they crank and use super harsh distortions?

Thats why some studios dont allow metal core?

I second Mike's recommendation for Smarvo. I have a 1x12" myself, 40w, and it's more than enough (sometimes too much haha). What can I say, the clean channel sounds marvellous alone, and with effects. The built in reverb just sounds beautiful. The distortion channel isn't very fantastic, but it can give the super high mids sound or the super scooped sound. Great if you are lazy to break out your pedal board. The only thing about the 40w model is that the distortion channel does not come with a full EQ, just 2 knobs, shape and presence. The clean chanel has almost a full EQ. There isn't a presence knob, but it isn't important. The 100w model comes with full EQ and chorus to boot. 2 speakers too!

any idea how long the tubes in a peavey classic 30 will last if used moderately...?

i've seen ppl playing that kustom 65 watts model. Yeah the guy was using his own pedalboard and the distortion sounds great.
