acoustic refers to instruments with acoustic voice..namely the steel string guitars and classical..sometimes archtops. But locally..acoustic is sometimes used to describe steel string(folk) guitars...
Like its name, folk/steel stringed guitars refers to all 6 strings being metal , no nylon strings and has a audible sound when u strum.
Classical guitars are just those with 3 nylon and 3 of composite steel-silk/wateve strings
these are just general classifications though there may sometimes be hybrid crossovers which aare hard to categorize..
it is easier if u surf ard for pictures..it's easier to differentiate tat way
forgot to mention..even guitars of the same class . ie steel string/classical
there are couple different body shapes...names...most commonly for steel string being : dreadnoughts, auditorium, OM, Concert, Jumbo,OOO ...etc
