Diff between TS9 and TS7?

Satch's MIJ DS-1s are modded. And he will not share what has been modded... its his tone secret.

Vai, has used an MIJ DS-1 and then for a moment, the Keeley DS1, then a Keeley TS9DX, now back ot the MIJ DS-1.

I guess by now, you know which DS-1 to look out for eh.

For the TS side, the boutique makers, the good ones, have improved upon and far surpassed the orignal TS in terms of sound, feel, noise level, versatility etc etc. Far surpassed. But guitarists are a backward people... :D Always seeking to emulate the old tones...

MIJ DS1s are the best out there. I don't know bout modded DS1s cant say I have tried them, mainly cause DS1 not sounding good under me, but MIJ DS1s totally kills the Taiwanese ones...

Paul Gilbert uses a Jap DS1 too. Don't know if it's his constant but I have seen numerous pictures of him with it.

the only time i liked my vintage 80s ts808 ability, was a thru a cranked up single channel JCM800 in OD break up, Gain 6, Master Volume 7. the ts808 set around 12'oclock all 3 knobs. yes it was loud, really loud. tone was superb.

ts9, last week at TNT, ahboy showed me how as a mild drive support (drive at 9 oclock) it helped tame the cranked up high gain 5150. the tone was well evened out, the low boom and piercing highs evident when the ts9 was off. the diff was so clear on his studio monitors.

as a stand alone OD, the mids may work for some lucky strats (maybe its not made to do stand alone without the cranking up)

i'll go for the BD-2 (mod) or other options that will work live for stand alone ODs.

not for me.

i don't deem a certain TS incarnation to be above others, it depends on the music i play & which version i choose to employ.
