Delay pedal repeat knob..is this normal?

I have a delay pedal, and when i turn the repeat knob about 3/4 of the way, the repeats seem to get louder and louder, and louder until it gets REALLY loud...

instead of getting softer, like at noon, the repeats get louder...

Is this normal?

That's called self oscillation. It's perfectly normal with some analog delays. When that happens, play with your delay time knob. You get really wacky spaceship landing sounds.

Yeah, definitely "normal", and in some cases desirable! Some delays even let you oscillate on purpose with a footswitch.

I put a limiter after my delays, so I can safely play with oscillation/feedback without blowing up my amp.

to add on to what dudelove said, some digital delays can self oscillate too..e.g Deep blue delay, ibanez de7...

try setting the repeats to where it almost self oscillates but doesnt, that'll give u a washed out but controllable sound if u dont have a limiter or a delay that can limit the repeat volume like the el capistan.
