Define a B-A-N-D

A think a band would work out great if they consist of friends...friends know each other better than random people.

aiyo, that's just my view la...... 8O

:)

sure, but no matter what we our views are, don't we all still agree, for a band to work, everybody in the band should first and foremost, respect each other and have a chance to say something or give an idea for the band to progress and have their ideas be considered?

would you rather drag it for years? hanging on to the hope that it might get better, tormenting each day?

or split now and move on with your life?

dude, chill man, i know what i must do la, but i'm just trying to get views from people about what they think a band should be and not whine about me being kicked out.

just because i respcet bands that have lots of fun have have this "chemistry" going on between them

Haha

I've experienced something like that too in my previous side project, i learned something that moment, its time that you should speak up for u and the rest of the band. All the best!

i think there surely would be disagreements, but maybe we should open up the disagreements to the whole band.

Thats what i did to the band, wrote up about how our band is not progressing after very very long(abt 7 mths) in a piece of paper, printed 4 pieces and gave to each and everyone of them and had a long discussion, opening up to each other, telling each other whats our faults? whats our weaknesses? how to improve? etc etc.

And thankfully, we've progressed much more for the next 1+ month even alot more than the previous 7months.

Well 1 thing is, we're all frens, and thru this band thing, we became closer friends.

ohh!

Ohh! You guys, damn. we're busy with O levels this year, hopefully we would gig soon with u guys again this year.

Panopticon-3 says:
well dave mustaine got kicked out of metallica abt 2 decades ago and hes still sour about it

Yeah...you can also go Mustaine's way and form your own revenge band!!

It all depends on the objective of the band: Is this band just a bunch of friends having the weekend jam and odd occassional gig? Stay friends and work it out among yourselves ...a few beers go down well with the black eyes and bruises afterwards.

In my case - I wanted to concertrate on a certain genre of music and the band I am putting together will be doing weekend gigs and frequent functions / corporate events etc.

In view of this, I had to start a fresh with like - minded musicians who share the same values as me on the music, rehersal, attitude & direction the band is going to take - I, finally - after much thought, selected musicians who were matured and talented enough to fit this bill and in the process had to turn down some of my old and really good friends who also wanted to be a part of my new project - it's sad but sometimes tough desicions have to be made for the overall good.

Open frank discussions in the studio, at the kopitiam, before, after or during rehersal are fine but the general rule of the thumb - ONLY ONE BAND LEADER WHO CALLS THE SHOT WHILE ON STAGE - anything else will lead to complete chaos especially in the high pressure gigs.

The role of the band leader: sometimes you have to know when to be the boss and when to be a friend....

I agree with you maxis. Been a band must know how to respect other bands, and all your members in your band too.

Though I'm more skillful than any of my bandmates, but I never look down on them cos I've beem one myself isn't it. I always think of ways to help them improve their skills and constantly remind their mistakes and spot their weakness.

There are times whereby your bandmates will feel themselves as a burden and may want to leave the band. Whoever it is in the band shld always look up for him/her and he/she is not and look on the bright side :D . :!: A bandmate only becomes a burden when he lost his interest and does not contribute anymore to the band. :!: As long as he/she tried her best and put in effort to train up, we shld always respect them. :o

Beside all the above, there are really alot other probs that a band will encounter as time goes by. Most importantly is always compromise each other, respect each other, never criticise anyone and never give up on the band if you really want to become a good band.

cheers 8)
