Any Deep Purple fans here? I`m sure most of us are big fans of the famous Mark II lineup but I listened to the albums from the Mark I lineup n they sound pretty good, a lot of great songs from there..seriously..Hush,Wring That Neck, Blind, Kentucky Woman etc..they even did a great cover version of the Beatles` We Can Work It Out. Their sound I would say is progressive, psychedelic pop. I think the Mark I lineup is really overlooked n overshadowed by the hard rock direction DP would take with Mark II. By the way, don`t get me wrong, I`m a huge admirer of all the lineups :)

That being said, Ritchie Blackmore is an incredible guitarist. He manages to get a big sound from his Strat that can put a Les Paul to shame..haha..:P

I think the brief period when the late Tommy Bolin was the lead guitarist is equally good. Stormbringer and Come taste The Band are very good.

the best line up ever is ian gillan, ritchie blackmore, roger glover, jon lord and ian paice..

personally i dun really like steve morse being in the band..

favourite hits would be highway star and child in time.. EPIC!!!!

big fan of steve morse here...
watched the 'abandon australia' dvd...gotta love the song 'sometimes i feel like screaming' man...the solos r just mind-blowing!!

The Mk I line-up wasn't that famous because of the songs, but I agree they have some great tunes. The latter line-up with Bolin sounds funkier. I love the band despite of the line-up changes. Just cherry-pick the best tunes you like!
