Decent quality recording gear for guitar?

Hi all,

been thinking about saving up for recording gear recently. I want to record my guitar using a microphone, and maybe play around with a few other tracks (maybe a harmonica etc on hand). Processing most probably on PC. Personally I've only tried the simple and raw n-Track software

Thinking of getting a Shure SM58 instrument microphone. Is there any other equipment/software I would need for decent recording? Any important stuff I should know?

As usual, thanks in advance to anyone who could help out. 8)

* Forgot to say, on a budget... maybe around $400-$500?

Wrong move to get SM58. That's for vocals.... go for it's instrumental counterpart, SM57.. SM57 is the most popular for guitar rigs....

you missed the most important part. how to get your mic into the computer! ha..ha.. no worries, Line6 is coming out with something really nice. it is called the TonePort. check it out
