I have a few friends who swear on their lives that they are Metalheads. However, when I asked them what types of Metal they're into, they said Deathcore and Metalcore. I couldn't help but laugh.
When I told them that Deathcore and Metalcore aren't Metal, they were offended and said that Deathcore and Metalcore are too 'brutal' for my liking. When I told them that I listen to Death and Black Metal, they then said that Deathcore is a heavier version of Death Metal. Can you believe this shit?
I don't mind if you're a fan of Deathcore and Metalcore. However to me, Deathcore and Metalcore are just heavier and more aggressive versions of Hardcore, hence the term 'core' in the genre names. Proof of this is that the most popular thing in Deathcore is the breakdown. As far as I know, there isn't a single Deathcore song that doesn't have a breakdown. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't breakdowns originally found in Hardcore
songs?
I find it annoying when people think that Deathcore and Metalcore are Metal.
I would love to see comments on this topic, regardless whether you agree or disagree with me.
