cracked my a custom yesterday. arghhhhhh heart pain. id like to ask however, is it advisable to weld the crack back together? also, can anyone recommend me a cymbal that is heavier than the a custom but sounds similar and retails at an affordable price? i hope its not too much to ask for. im thinking of getting something from paise.. what do you guys think? help!

im not sure if welding would affect the sound of the cymbal but you should get bigger and heavier sizes of cymbals cause they would be able to take more beating! you might also want to check how you angle your cymbals and how tightly you hold them down. it might be the cause of your cymbals cracking.
im not sure about this but somehow, i always see cracked zildjian cymbals on youtube videos and such especially a customs. maybe you could try looking at other brands!

erm.. there is no way to weld back your cymbal bro. its will destroy the sound. what you can do is to drill one hole at the end of the crack to stop teh crack. rmbr your cymbal is made of bronze.

and as namreh said check how you angle your cymbals and how tight they are. also how you hit the cymbals.

for cymbals that sound like a custom. i do not know. why dun you try the paiste rudes. :) they can definitely take a beating!

thanks for the replies bros! really appreciate it. i guess im gna have to try what kanzer says and try to drill a hole at the end of the crack. i just hope i wont crack it further thru the drilling process.. im definitely looking and paiste rudes and 2002s. i guess i have to save up again. zzz.

or look at meinl byzance series! quite pricey and not a very wide range in singapore but i really love the sound. haha!

hahahaha. def will take time to look at the various cymbals all of you recommended! haissssss the feeling really sucks when u crack your cymbal. one question: will the cymbal crack further if i drill a hole at the end of the crack? i want to do that, but scared ah. haha. thanks for the replies! :)

the hole is supposed to prevent the crack from getting bigger! if you dont drill the hole, the more you hit, the bigger the crack will grow. like what retardedrummer suggested, try looking at the sabian aaxplosion crashes! i own an 18" aaxplosion crash and it's really cutting and loud when i only hit it with medium strength. the aax series are made with a dynamic focus design and this makes the cymbal opens up easily even when hit very lightly. and the axxplosion crashes are like its name suggests, very explosive. haha!

hi guys, im so sorry for the late reply. its not a big crack, about 1.5cm? why? so, confirm ah wont crack summore ah? ill drill it later tonight. haha. thanks for all the help. really appreciate it. :)
