just wondering..

1. whether u can sand off the laquer on ur bass and redo the body. like change to coating and all..

2. change passive pickups to active ones.

1. Yes. but it will be very troublesome. Make sure you know what proper finshes to use.

2. Yes. I have done that.

yea just gotta find someone who you really trust with modifications.. don't need to know the technical details just let the guys in the shop handle it..

love your signature Z3r0 :)

i did the sanding the body and recoating it before ... once .. it's ALOT of work ...

no joke .. and getting the laquer coat even was tough .. very tough ...

anyway that bass has long gone to a proud owner .. still miss it though ... it was a warmoth 5-string J bass ..

ok while we are on this line of discussion, is it possible to run a fine sandpaper through the finish to go from glossy to a matt finish?

possible in some ways but you got to do it properly ... i still think you won't get a smooth matt finish ... more like a rough matt finish?

you will get better results with brasso or any metal polish... which are actually mild abrasives. even toothpaste works.

thanks for the tips!

i am waiting for someone in singapore to do electrolplating on his guitar... i know there are such services in sg but i don't know if they do wood. neither do i know how it is really done elsewhere. but can you imagine?

electroplating!?
that'll make ur bass all shiny and metallic. quite cool i would think. but i guess it'll affect the sound and tone?
haha..

and tks for all the advice given. maybe in the future i'll experiment with my bass. that is if i get a new one! hahahaha.

You'll find tons of options online. Here's a non-exhaustive list

2. Usacustomguitars.com
3. Guitarmill.com
4. basspartsresource.com
