Country music in Singapore

Chet BENG KOON! Dman he is a country Genius.
I think in Singapore he is best... check out his chord works man...
Although I am not country fans but I enjoy watching him play all the time!

Yes we all know him (the country guys anyway) ... I actually took over his lead guitar spot in a country band called the Mavericks after he left them. Damm good pedal steel player too...heard he's playing / jammin around at Tanglin CC nowadays...

Another POWER country picker is Leonard Rezel - now chicken picken at Chevy 57....theres Phillip (ex Ginivy lead guitarist) and a host of other chicken pickin vets whom I have jammed with but their names escape me for now...

Ahhh good to know there's country-lovin' hee-haw folks in here!

I'm actually a blues guy, but I'm quite fascinated by country. At first it was Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, then that twangy Telecaster sound that I'm still trying to work on and now the powerful songwriting skills of Johnny Cash.

I've met Peng Koon at G77, and I'd wouldn't say that he simply refuses to teach. You've just got to approach him the right way, and he'll show you stuff without you even asking. He's definitely The Man when it comes to country fingerstyle.

Where is there to go to catch live country?

I have personally found some country licks & chicken pickin runs faster & harder to play as compared to rock, pop, blues etc. One tune that comes to mind is when I had to transcribe & play "Devil went Down to Georgia" (Johnny Lee's fiddle version)....

The best fiddler here I have heard cover that song is Dennis Hogan who used to play at Ginivy"s

both Ginivys and Winchester 77 gone liao... BTW Pat Favacho, Rawi & the country guys are doing 2 sets at the Esplanade open air tonite... 8)

Well most of the country music you hear here anyway is the sort of stuff you hear in church. I am more of progressive rock kinda guy, Pink Floyd that kinda stuff.
