Cosmic American Music To Rock The Sub!!!

Once upon a time in the late sixties, a well-to-do Southern gent named Gram Parsons decided to meld rock ‘n’ roll with country-folk into a new form he christened “Cosmic American Music”. He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams but alas, never lived to enjoy the fruits of his labor, dying of a drug overdose in the early 70s, not even 30 years old. From his pioneering work has evolved the genres of country-rock (popularized by the Eagles and their ilk), Americana and alt-country.

Thirty-five years after Parsons’ unfortunate demise, Kevin Mathews/the Groovy People stand poised to give a loving tribute to the man himself with a primarily Cosmic American Music set at the Rock the Sub event at Timbre @ Substation this Saturday, 7th June 2008 from 9.30 to 10.15pm. The highlight of which will be a cover of Parsons’ classic “Hot Burrito #1.”

So I hope to see all of you there decked out in your finest alt-country threads as we pay homage to the legend and legacy of Gram Parsons…
