Copper foil adhesive tape?

Hey guys, has anyone bought this to do shielding for your bass before?
I'm thinking of buying a roll, but have no idea where to buy it from or how much it costs here...

yo cherns,

guitar parts resource has it .. i'm sure ...

i've never really done copper shielding before but on my previous bass when i opened up the electronics cavity there is a copper strip attached to the jack ... so i'm not sure if that counts as shielding ...

I think the easier to find heavyduty aluminium tapes found at hardwarestores will work too.

For easiest and nice looking sheilding
go Sim Lim Tower and hunt around for some nickel paint.
( some shops carry this ..must slowly find )
Just remove the electronics, mask body and spray

I guess it's time for me to scour the tower again... :p

My only concern with aluminum tape is that it's a pain to solder.

I personally find that there's not much diff even after putting copper tape to shield the cavity.
Tried it on my previous basses. All having no difference in tone watsoever.
(One's a BBN5A)

2 things.

1. I hope you do realise that there's a lot more to grounding than just lining your cavity with copper foil. In fact, doing just that without anything else will achieve pretty much... nothing.

2. It's not meant to change the tone of your bass. It's meant to minimize the 60cycle hum you get from single coil basses, or poorly shielded/wired/grounded basses.

Your BBN5A has humcancelling pickups - so even with a good grounding job, the difference before and after shielding that bass wouldn't be that significant as compared to doing the same thing with a jazz bass.

hey warwickw,

i have a BBN5A too ...

yes i do encounter hum problems but it's quite insignificant actually .. =) ..

Yeh i found the yamaha electronics rather noisy, especially during recording.

Tried it on a fender with double single coils as well. No diff to me.
Haha maybe coz I dun really that much bout tone, can play can already. Most prob the extra hums will be drowned by the drums anyway. :D

agreed ... hahaha ..

i usually switch to both pickups on when recording ...

my N5A churns out pretty nice modern p-bass tones on my front pickups and nice throaty tones on my back pickups ..

i always found the pickups slightly bright though .. but it's a nice bright ..
