Exploring options besides the usual ProTools. Anybody uses this software to mix their loops with midis and other formats? Im looking at Aiff outputs. Is it compatible with midi Triggers? Asking Drummers with experience in sound engineering and recording. No casual opinions please.

i'm not a drummer but a long time cool edit user. (lucky I saw your post on the recent thread on the main page, otherwise usually i only browse the sound/computers section)

indeed cool edit can open AIFF (protools) files. but the bad news is , the midi support for cool edit is not as flexible/stable as cubase/cakewalk sonar. it doesn't support VST too, so alot of the powerful midi plugins are VST based which you'll be missing out.

so either you convert all your AIFF files to .wav (remember to backup the original AIFF) and use in cubase/cakewalk (midi)

or you start saving for protools. heheh.

Hey. Thanks a lot. I've Cubase SE edition. Felt quite restrained. At least now i know what i need. The full editions are a little pricey. Will look at Cakewalk Sonar. A friend offered to loan me his Native Komplete and Kore. Any experience with it?
