Sounds like a wise decision! Continue with your work. Don't stop taking lessons on your instrument. But most importantly, grow to enjoy it. Don't cut yourself off from your friends.
Actually, you mentioned taking up composition as well. Looks like you've got quite a few interest up your sleeve! No problem! One thing about composition is "experiences". Despite what another thread was discussing about compositions being non-original nowadays, I actually believe strongly that what we experience in life and around us heavily influence our compositions. That include the joy, the pain, who we met, what we went through - all somehow relects in what we write in music. You mentioned you seldom met with your friends lately. That sounded like cutting yourself off which is actually not too good for composition.
