Compressor/Sustain Pedal Recommendation

i dont know about anyone else, but in ax3000g, i used compressor as it adds the chugg in the metal tone. but seriously i dont know whats a compressor.

most compression sustainer pedals add noise to your signal. you might want to buy a cheap one to try first. even boutique compressors can be noisy.

its hard for any compressor in pedal form to do so much that change the fundamental characteristic of that distortion to articulate, tight and mute(??) if theres none of these to begin with in the first place.

The article by randolf, posted by leecs is a good read into compressor. If you wanna try, try those mentioned in the article first.

As for compressor for metal. Theres no such pedal. A compressor is a compressor which compressed signal, regardless of style. As long as theres any sound going into the pedal, it wont distinguish whether is it people talking or lorry engine sound, it will still compress the sound. But whether the one listening like it or not, thats hard to say.

Have fun with the search!

we are not in the same frequency. articulate (precise/ clear) tight chugging (palm mute), single string palm muting. listen to lamb of god and you'll know. i know lamb of god uses rackmount dbx compressor. i dont want a rack efx. is there any pedal that can achieve this? thank you very nice. :P

no compressor can do that majik without your original distortion already having the fundamental characteristic of the points you have mentioned

haizz, have fun searching still. If you managed to find any compressor in pedal format that really can transformed a loose and muddy sounding distortion into clear and tight shaggah, do come back and let us know..

let's say my original sound is not muddy and not loose. i got a nice chugga metal distorted tone.. without a compressor it sounds ok but i want it more tight. no pedal can do that u mean? :o

btw, i've just tried the common dyna comp and cs-3. dyna comp sounds more full. cs-3 just a slight more treble. any other recommendations?

if you are already happy with your distortion and wanna extra, try barber tone press. It has a parallel compression feature which can blend your orginal signal(without compression) with the compressed signal.

Most compressor pedals processed all your signal and the only thing we can control is the amount of compression, either less or more.

tone press can control the amount of compression plus combining the uncompressed signal together as set by the user.

there shud be a review by subversion in the review section, you might like to check it out.

Hmm maybe what you need is another light drive/boost pedal to boost your distortion? Thats what I do to get a tight and punchy sound. You might wanna try a light, slightly-boosted-mids overdrive with losta volume.

Just a suggestion :)

I'd look at a compressor only as the icing on the cake.

Your tone without compression must be good/satisfactory to your ears/feel. If you're sure of that - then hunt for one.

The test of a compressor is... well... do your testing on clean. Observe how your cleans change with the added compression - its easier to hear that way. Playing heavy gain would make certain compressor characteristics less obvious. E.g. the dynacomp you mentioned, sounds "more full". If you tried it on clean, you'd notice that your clean tone undergoes quite a change, your treble gets chopped off and your mids get pushed into extra creamy-ness. And that same thing happens to your dirty tone, just less apparent unless you turn up the volume. Is that good for a tight chugga wagga tone? Your call.
