Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has comments/advices/suggestions on the following set-up.

Amp <- Boss CH-1 <- Boss CS-3 <- MXR Phase90 <- Ibanez TS808 <- Sansamp GT-2 <- Ibanez DE-7 <- Tuner Pedal <- Crybaby Original <- Guitar

Thanks.

Not typical for a delay pedal to be before the distortions or even the modulations. If you do it this way, your delays will get distorted and modulated instead of the other way around. Of course, it's not a hard rule, just not typical.

You may want to try the phaser before the distortions. A phaser after distortion gives it a very strong phasing sound, whereas before distortions give it a subtler, sweeter sound. There are many users of either method, whichever suits your ears.

A compressor near the end of the chain is usually used to even out peaks and smooth everything over before the amp. I'm not too sure what are it's effects before or after that last chorus. Many users also use the compressor at the start of the chain, right after the guitar, to give the guitar sustain and smooth things over before going through all the distortions and modulations. Compressors are tricky effects with many uses, it's really up to the user to understand how it works and decide if and where he needs one.

same sentiments as blueark. usually compressor is placed at the start of your signal chain and delays at the back after the overdrives and distortion. but thats just a general guide.

i say whatever works for you is a good setup.

post pics? lets see some pics of your gear bro. :D

Hi,

Thanks for advice, I'll try out the sound as per mentioned in the replies.

Yeah I will when I have some time, work screws up practising time, let alone some photo session with the gears.

Thanks again!

hmm ... i used to put a compressor last just before the amp. worked great for me.

also. great choice on the ts808. Ive just got hold of a analogman ts808 to stack with my keeley ts808.... i gotta say... they are different but both equally awesome... get yours modded bro. its worth it.

Feels wierd to me to pair a TS808 with a GT2. A GT2 is all about scoopy mids while a 808 has the famous mid hump. If you using them seperately, cool. If not, I suggest using the 808 as a booster i.e lower gain, higher volumer settings and placing it before the GT2. Again, it depends on how you're using your drives.

Where to place your CS-3 depends on what you're using it for. If you're using it to tame the peaks in your playing, place it before your drives and always after your wah/filters.

Always better to place time based modulations last so chorus after your phaser.

Here's how I would do it:

Guitar -> Tuner -> Wah -> CS3 -> TS808 -> GT2 -> Phase90 -> CH1 -> Delay -> Amp

Guitar -> Tuner -> Wah -> CS3 -> TS808 -> GT2 -> Phase90 -> CH1 -> Delay -> Amp

+ 1

Use the TS808 as a clean boost or just stand alone low overdriven sound. Always remember that Delay needs to be put after your drive pedals for that nice Eric Johnson/ Shawn Lane type of lead tones.
