Hi everyone, i'm not trying to propagate dissidence or politically righteous mentality here- just wanna know how everyone feels about the coming GE. some of the politically staunch individuals are indeed musically inclined (Bono/ Bob Dylan/ Dave Mustaine among others).

please do NOT post any liable materials here, there are countless blogs out there to do so...

It's the same group of people who wins everytime. Personally I think those "group of people" are not yet willing to let go of their political powers. So everytime when a opposition comes to challenge their place, they would probably be on the news for a couple of days and then dissappear as though nothing happened. Well whatever I just said is just how I see it. It may be totally different from others.

Half the time I think the whole election is rigged and everything is just a charade to spice up tv ratings. :?

Well anyways I think this is a good thread cause I do wanna see opinions coming from other softies about our General Election. So the post coming in people.

True, the PAP is unwilling to relent power. And the opposition does not get much coverage, considering how tightly they control Singapore's media.

But seriously, if you give consideration to why they continue winning, you would realise that they have done a splendid job with Singapore. Of course, it is not perfect, nothing is. But you really cannot deny the magnificient job the PAP has done ever since Singapore attained her sovereignty.

No doubt, I would enjoy seeing some competition, some serious contenders. It would probably result in the PAP upping their ante to meet head-on with the challengers.
But whenever I look at the Workers' Party or whoever else, I simply cannot picture them at the helm, leading our nation.

But mind, that is merely my humble opinion.

All in all, from a personal point of view, I would root for the competition.
But on a more logical, long-term viewpoint for our nation, it is still the PAP for me.

true- current government did a splendid job for the country but there are certain praise-worthy ideals by the opposition which are not heard/ made aware to the people. these are the very alternatives to assess the government's capacity.

i'm lobbying for no particular camps though.

I feel the civil service in general still tends to be pro-PAP, which can be a problem. The alternative voice is supressed by people who view PAP as the only suitable party, now and forever.

Opposition party members have hinted at the negative approach that the media shows of their party, especially in comparision with the PAP.

All I can say is, if voters make a decision even before any election or speech, we will never get to look at the whole picture.

any organisation need to build up through time. I am very practical, show me your plan and results and I will vote for you.

just like any band/musician, you can have all the media coverage, dress top-notch, fancy equipment and killer hot-bod but if your playing is not to par and your show is bad, the audience will only watch your show once.

i missed 1 coz i was overseas and another because of walk-over. haiz.... still virgin voter.

I feel that some of the oppositon lack credibility, that's why they are destined to lose. While some just attract attention by creating a scene. This is not goin to convince people to vote for them. They also lack concrete plans of what they are goin to do if they get elected. The current gov does a very good job for all of us, so it is goin to be tough to convince people that you are going to do a better job. And at the moment, the opposition have yet to convince people that they are the better alternative.

Ya la have to really prove their worths, and at least make a good impression. Think PAP's all white uniforms.

i dont know shit so ill try not to make myself look stupid but.

competition is always healthy dont you think. if the PAP had some serious competition they might have to work harder to retain control. it would be nice to see a serious opposition party mount a challenge against the PAP. every time the general election comes around, most GRCs enjoy walkovers because the PAP are tried and tested.

but the PAP has been dominant since forever. some ppl may like them, some may not, but there's no denying that they've done a decent (though by no means perfect) job with the nation. we dont want to be taking the risk of a new government who is not proven. the PAP has served us well in its time and i think that should continue.

until we can find credible opposition. one who understands the needs of the people, who can provide us with what we want. who will appeal not only to a niche area or to certain extremists but to the general public. we need an opposition who knows what they are doing, to be able to convince the people that they are better than the PAP and why.

till then we'll just have to make do with the PAP.

there. my 50cents worth.

the ruling will win eventually but i think the scene need to have some chilly sauce to spice things a bit. Too much maiinstream songs abit boringlah...

my secoond time voting haha!

AHA! but was it the PAP's intervening hand which made them out to be the scumbags that you think they are? think carefully friend.

anyway, if your constituency is lucky enuff to actually have an election (no walkover), vote for the guy you never heard of, that way at least he can still get his deposit back. :P

Everyone's so afraid that their job/education/life will be screwed if they vote for the wrong party .. And i'm not talking about that party doing a bad job, if you know what i mean .. Heck care la, my dad vote how he like for his whole life, and i turned out ok ..

The best was JBJ i feel ... JBJ for life!

oppositions lack credibility? oppositions destined to lose? no. itz coz in singapore, therez no real politics. thtz y there is always one same party ruling. the oppositions they show u r just to maintain the fact tht there is indeed activity. or rather, politics here is different. oppositions act/create a scene, they r called fools. it makes me laugh. b happy u guys, stick to whichevr party is ruling & b quiet. we r already well-off n mayb this kind of politics aint bad afterall, made wat sg is today. so calm a nation. ha. ha. ha. ha.
