Circuit breakers

Will that cut off the mains power if there is a short circuit and prevent you from being fried? "Pops" I can live with. Death, I can't. :)

vernplum, where do you want to use this? i mean, is it for your guitar amp?

Yes. Just playing safe. I know that opening up the amp chassis and switching tubes isn't going to put me at that much risk, but you never know, and I understand those things don't cost much...

vernplum, i am just thinking in terms of electrical protection, where is the best point to insert this circuit breaker. maybe mikemann can give some input on this.

Okay - here's the deal: I actually have a CB - it's a plug with a switch that trips (some electrician help me out here) when there is a mains spike due to some overload or short circuit or something and cuts off the power. Trouble is, it's in the UK at my parents' house.

I used to use it a lot when playing live a few years back - those things are recommended as cheap essential lifesavers. In the event of something bizarre happening to you like standing in a puddle of beer while somebody douses your amp in a bucket of water (or a dozen other things that can result in electrocution) the plug will sense a screw up in the electrical supply and cut the power before you can be completely cooked. This, I understand, is the essence of its function.

Just wondering if any of you guys used one - in fact, I think I might have asked it before. I read in Guitarist magazine that one of the senior reviewers (Nick Guppy?) had had his life saved *twice* by using one of these $10 things (which incidentally, is less than it would cost for my parents to post mine over here.)
