CHORUS pedal..

guys..i need to find a chorus pedal that works effectively with lead/gain soloing.

recently, i bought a small clone..which is SUPERB for clean sounds, very natural. works well with strumming and picking.

but when engaged with my amps distortion for soloing, it doesnt stand out quite so much, its not really present. Im looking to really hear that chorus layer on top of my lead sound to thicken it up.

SO, can you guys recommend a chorus model that will work well and effectively with my amps distortion? One that will give me that 80's rock solo chorus effect for leads..thats the stuff:)

well you should try using a distortion pedal before the chorus or put it in your amp's effects loop if it has one. what amp are you using?

marshall sv1. actually. try this, play without your chorus on first, then switch your chorus on to a/b the sound. big difference. :)

edit: oh yeah, the chorus should come AFTER your drive, not before.

well im using a 50 watt head with an effects loop. My signal is dry except for a tube screamer that i engage for more edge. I position the chorus after the ts.

thanks ive never tried the sv1. perhaps it is my solution! ill go check it out :)

Hmm.

Call me self-obsessed but I bought the Dano Fab chorus.. and it works very well with clean, distortion and even acoustic (tried it out last night live). $28 for a cheap and usable piece of gear.

There's the holy BOSS Ce-2, or a BYOC analog chorus or maybe an ibanez/maxon cs-9. I've not tried any of them but from what i've read, they are worthy to check out.

Currenly am looking for a chorus pedal also. I'm shooting on the BYOC analog chorus most probably... :D

^ i'm using the byoc A chorus and its much better than what i expected it to be.
prefer it to the ehx small clones. if you really wanna invest in a good chorus then get teh TCElec chorus, analogman bi(2!)-chorus or if you dont wanna spend as much, MIJ ce-2.

just curious guys..but would something like a very digital sounding chorus such as the Digitech Multi-Voice Chorus, although digital, really sound sexy after distortion for getting that huge pants creaming lead chorus tone?

well waht 50 watt head are you using? if its a tube head i would get something digital. yes im a digital hater.

EDIT : WOULDNT get digital

Scott henderson uses the sch-1. The sch-z is still available for cheap prices on ebay and online.

The company that makes the Xotic pedals also features their modified version of arion sch-z. Quite a few pros using them. Michael landau, allen hinds, mike thompson....etc.

Oops my bad, thanks for the correction.

Yes, Im in love with his chorus, Im dying for that sound.. Ebay is my best bet I guess? Im trying my luck here as well

18v Danelectro Cool Cat if you can get your hands on one..

or the Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus - "IMO" best amongst all chorus pedals available at ebenex, although there's a slight signal boost...

tried the following at ebenex - VS H20, VoodooLabs chorus, TCE SCF, Small Clone, Boss choruses, Rocktron Tsunami, and was impressed most with the Voodoo Labs..

cheers guys the input is much appreciated!

to clear things up alittle, im using a 50watt all tube head with an effects loop and master volume controls.

When i play in the bedroom or in small jam venues, the gain that i get is naturally preamp distortion. So the chorus pedal as i understand has to be placed in the effects loop for best performance using my preamp's gain.

So under these circumstances, using my amps preamp and not power amp or an external distortion pedal gain, what kind of chorus would work best? Analogue or digital? Does it my setup make a difference?

Was thinking that perhaps a digital chorus would more complement the preamp gain and a analogue more to a power amp gain...
