chinese song chord

oh mingguan if u hadn't mentioned I also wouldn't have noticed!!wow theblueark u mean tt if i know how to play canon thn can play 50% of all chinese songs?LOL!!

You know, the Chinese song/Canon progression thing was such a running joke with my group of friends, that one day we had a medley session trying to exhaust all the songs doing that progression.

thor666, can list all them down for benifit of those beginner?

Actually,
it quite popular because it is nice (or radio friendly)?

Some people can make use of it to come out unique song,
but some people make the song "sounds familiar" because of using this chord progression.
Depend on how you use it.

No, I can't remember, unfortunately. It's too long ago, and I'm not a big fan of Chinese music. My friend was the one who initiated the medley thing.

The Canon progression sounds nice yea, because there's quite a few tricks on the progression. For example, you could run interesting partial ascending and descending basslines over the chords:

Bassnotes in ():

Partial Descending: C(C) G(B) Am(A) Em(G) F(F) C(E) Dm(D) (C)(B)(A) G(G)
Partial Ascending: C(C) G(D) Am(E) (F) Em(G) F(A) (B) C(C) (B) Dm(A) G(G)

and all along i thot CANON was on D ??? :(

but i wud say that CANON D ROCK is a very good piece for practicing ..

Which reminds me... there's htis inside joke among the musicians while I was in MDC...

"Hey what songs to play ah?"
"I dunno... its kind of boring leh"
"Its okay lah, lets just take 1 song, then repeat it, each time moving up 1 key."
"True, the audience will be none the wiser!"

But strangely... we never got to do that...

Anyway, what are some chinese rock bands that have great compositional ideas? Esp getting out of the normal (I - vi - IV - V, I - ii - vi - V / etc..) progressions?

FIR and this new mandarin pop group call Deep White. Same family chords, different arrangements. Their current single is very nice.

FIR is quite nice leh... I mean, I never listen to chinese rock, but they do interest me. I can hear the guitarist is very restrained though... for the sake of commercialisation. And the song lhah.
