Chinese Gibsons

Has anyone ever bought one of the fake Gibsons made in China? Did you buy them from websites like Aliexpress.com or TradeTang? Did you experience any problems or have to pay anything extra for customs or when importing the guitar?

Thanks

I have not purchased any chibsons before but do take my advise and stay away from these sites and say NO to these replica's who are in my honest opinion damaging the market.

any purchase above $400 SGD will need to pay GST

why pay for a chibson? just buy an epiphone , greco or rally for that amount. at least you will get a proper guitar and not just some random piece of wood.

+100.
China produces all kinds of awesome instruments, guitars included.
Some of my best guitars are made in China.
But buying fakes is just wrong. Period.

Do not buy fakes/replicas from china. Or anywhere for that matter.
But especially china.
You're wasting your money. Unless it's just for display purposes.

I have no intention of getting a fake Gibson. In fact, if I were to get a guitar made it would not say Gibson anywhere on the guitar. I 100% agree that buying a fake guitar damages the market and I do not want to buy some random $300 guitar and show it off as a real Gibson. The only reason I'm even considering this is because I want a specific type of guitar and I haven't found it anywhere I have looked (ebay, SOFT, craigslist etc). That is the only reason I'm even considering this.

Confession time!

I bought one before. Total cost i cant really remember, around $400 i think

1) guitar wood was horrible, very light and "hollow" sounding

2) hardware all looked very cheap but surprisingly, strings stayed in tune after hard playing.

3) fretboard finish looked cheap. Actually the whole guitar felt cheap.

4) fretwork was quite bad

5) pickups were fuckups. Lol. Microphonic and sounded like crap. I replaced it with wilkinson pickups which helped. In the process of replacing the pickup, that was when i realised how cheap the wood was when i opened up the guitar.

6) overall feel, okay lah, still can play and sounded decent after the pickup swap. My friend thought i got a real gibson until he played the guitar then he realised how cheap it felt haha.

7) bottom line. I'd rather spend money on a rally or epiphone. Waay better. Feels better. Sound better. Is better.

There are plenty of reviews on youtube on these fakes. Some good, some bad. Just search for "China Gibson"...

Consensus is that they look good on the outside, but beware it's inner demons! Wirings all FUBAR, cavities for pups, pods, switches are rough and hastily made. Even the shiny hardware which looked so good when new tarnishes and flakes easily after just a few years...

IMHO, forget about it lah!
