hey guys i thought it'd be helpful to share this.
Does your guitar fall to the ground because of a crappy strap or crappy strap button?
If yes, u'll be considering a strap lock or the planet waves locking strap(which isnt expensive but hey, i'm kinda a cheapo still)
Firstly, the dunlop straploks are awfully big and they require the old buttons to be removed.
but then, people like me, who sometimes have to starve for 2 days to buy a new set of strings, like doing things for ourselves.
All you needs is a:
-medium/hard pick
-scissors
-cutting skills
i came out with and idea of cutting up a pick to slot it in between the guitar strap and the button. however, before i could try it, i realized someone on youtube already came up with that idea!! heres the link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLCcrnzVZQ0
he says 'nipple' alot which is seriously irritating
but anyway i went on to try it out myself.
here's a picture of mine. (i used a pink pick for contrast)
THIS WORKS. i cannot, no matter how hard i try to deliberately pull the strap off. if you want to remove your strap, just pull the pick out. simple!
however a few things to note:
1. The opening to slot the pick in has to be tight. meaning, the width of the entrance has to be slightly, i mean slightly smaller than the diameter of the button on the inside. this will prevent the 'straplock' from falling out. not too small also or else it cant even go in.
2. Its not easy to cut especially if u're using a hard pick. but do not use soft picks as they might break. i recommend medium or somewhere in between medium and hard.
3. Mark the area where u're cutting it will make things much easier and less prone to mistakes. also, measure the diameter of the inside of the button then start marking the pick.
those who swear by schaller or dunlop straplocks, stick with it as that is proven and is heavy duty. but for musicians out there who like doing things for themselves, this might be a fun, cheap and effective way to keep ur strap in place.
HOPE THIS HAS HELPED.
I assure you this works and it will cost at most 50cents or maybe a dollar if u screw one up and have to make another.
a 'thank you' will be very much appreciated!
Cheers!
