hey guys... u c, i got a epiphone les paul recently, and every1 whom i knew keep telling me it sucks la... i mean wtf i tot it sounded quite gd la... gibson is obviosuly better i noe... but ep lp also quite gd wad... i was like tmd la.... but still i was thinking, is it possible to like change parts of my guitar to make the sound better such as the pickup... but like i noe nothing abt pickup leh... later get cheated... can give some advice here? anyway is the wood for ep lp gd? as in wood got affect anything nt

well, in the case of pickups, there are many different kinds out there to suit the different genres
if you need advice, might wanna try telling us what kinda music you play, metal? blues? jazz? rock?

and imo, you shouldnt care about what others might say about your tone, if you like the sound you should stick to it

The wood of a lp gives it a nice, fat sound.... Not sure about epip LP though. And yes, Pickup replacement is definitely the way to go to improve tone. However, do provide some info regarding your playing style and also your setup (pedals, amps). Some influences (bands you like) will help as well.

i use an epi lp and imo it is a great guitar. the body and the finishing and stuff are worth the upgrade...i changed my pickups to a seymour duncan JB (bridge) and sd jazz(neck, and upgraded the tuners to grover and it is one heck of a guitar

if i were you, i wouldnt give a damn about the jibes as along as i like the tone...haha...i also always kena teased...doesnt help to have other guitarists using gibsons and fenders in the band. but nvm...i love my baby :D

Hmmm.... I think it's not too right of your frens to just say that an Epi LP sucks. After all, Epis can be either good or bad, since you didnt mention the exact model you have as well. The recent made in china ones apparently ain;t too good, but who's to say that a high end elitest Epi is lousy? After all, the general consensus nowadays is that gibsons are not worth the money, so are they really that good after all?(gibson fans pls dun flame me) It's all a matter of preference and budget. Pickups wise, obviously you will do well to change to stuff like SDs. A 59 neck and JB bridge combi should serve you fine. May telling us the exact model of your Epi LP?

I personally use a Craftsman LP as my second electric, so ain't I even more cheapskate than you? Hahaha.... well, I plan to modify my LP soon though.

haha, i understand your sentiments... i got a epiphone les paul and my fren also say it sux

as long as you don't feel it sucks, it doesn't matter, isn't it?

hey, actually i heard now lp wood nt vry gd ah.. i mean pickup can change but wood cannot wad... tink fender better?

y spend more money to please other pple? since u liked the sound of it den stick with it. dun worry abt wat pple have to say. they seem to always have sumthing to say for everything u do. so if u like ur tone den its ur tone.. :D

Erm.... I think you are quite out of topic here... since both guitars are generally different in tone, there is no "good" or "bad" between the 2. A better conparison with be with another LP, such as a Tokai one or a Burny one. Seriously, the wood itself doesnt matter all that much in the sound. Most of the time it's the PUs. Though there is general sentiments that the recent made in china Epiphones are no good. The whole "Epiphones suck" thing comes from the fact that Epiphones are not all that value for money, with cheaper LPs such as Craftsman and Aria being comparably in quality and sound for much lesser cash. Thus, epiphones(korean made) are not all that bad, just that you have paid too much for something that could have cost much less.

haha... yeah... It matters more on the technique man... I have been using a cheapo strat copy about a 100 bucks... at first it sounded kind of sucky but as I improve on playing, the starts to sound nice...

It is more on how u use it with ur hands... also the amp and effects play a big part... haha... try to play around with ur settings... u will get a good tone...

Happy exploring man...

Weird , i have an epiphone les paul, and everyone around me said its beautiful, great mellow tone.If it does makes you feel any better, Sean from ronin swears by an epiphone les paul. Its nice depending on how you set the eq ,the amount of gain, also the type of songs you are playing and also how well you play it.

but if i have the money, i would change the tuners, change pickups to SD Super alnico pro II and add a bigsby tremolo, not that the current stuff on my guitar suck, but i just want even better :)

ah, i have an epi les paul too and i must say i am very happy with it. made in china but still very good... no problems with it so far. only thing i would change are the pickups... tuners are grovers

cool... thn i'll consider a epi lp. but heard that other thn the lp, the others are not as good, like the sg, rite?

epiphone les pauls are alright, but imho, after reading those reviews on burny and tokai les paul copies which are pretty good, or even up to par with gibson lp's which costs 3x more, i guess you can kinda see why.

at sweelee sale, the epiphone LPs were practically untouched when i was there...

and one thing about it is that when u play chords, powerchords, it's kind of muffled, but when soloing is a different thing though...

Why do you care what others think? As long as you like the feel and the tone, just play. I have a 'cheap' Cort which many people think is a piece of sh*t, low budget, useless, etc, compared to Fender or PRS, but hey, it does an excellent job for me, and I am happy with it for now.

You need to 'tune' your guitar to your playing style, i.e., adjust the action, pickup height, bridge, etc, so that it gives you the best performance.

When I got my guitar, the strings were too high, the pickups were too low, etc, and the sound was not right. I changed the strings, adjusted everything, and it now sounds excellent.

i agree with sepultura, essentially, u will be playing the guitar, u will want to be having fun :D so screw other people's opinion on whats crap etc, and get what u think will make u all warm and fuzzy inside 8)

haha... tink lp looks good but don sound nice. fender looks ugly but sounds nice too... how come epiphone so poor thing? no1 touch it at sales. dam pathetic har?
