Changing Ibanez Neck

Hey all,

I am wondering if it is possible to change this neck (sharktooth inlays),

to this neck (dotted inlays),

My current guitar is the Ibanez 350EX and would like to change the neck to dot inlays. I have a thing for Ibanez guitars having dot inlays.

Well, is it possible?. If it is, how do I go about doing that?. Where can I get an Ibanez neck with dot inlays to fit my guitar?

imho,
techically, yes you can.
and from your picture, that's a JEM JR,
and the neck is generally the same as the 350ex

JEM JR (333) is essentially a 350ex with some mods such as the monkey grip and the lion claw.

you can buy Ibanez neck alone from ebay. Maybe try Prestige necks?

Thanks for your input. I found an Ibanez Prestige Neck on sale for $300 on Buy/Sell. I didn't find anything on ebay though.

Any other places I can find dotted inlay Ibanez necks?.

It depends on where the body is made and where the neck is made. The neck holes are align sightly diff. Basically, Indonesia body can only fit Indonesian necks. Korean body can only fit Korean necks and Japanese body can only fit Japanese neck. U can however refill and redrill the neck holes to align to the new body if u want to.

get the one in the buy sell, a prestige neck, ebay has loads, just search rg550 and youll see many necks

Ibanez necks are not cheap man. just have to check whether its AANJ or the block joint. another thing is country of origin. I do believe that the alignment might vary a little.

an alternative would be to replace the fingerboard. which is cheaper I dont really know....

Ibanez guitars looks better with dotted inlays than shark tooth. Do you think I should swap or stay with what I have?

Thanks for your input guys. Now, i know the alignment differs from country's origin and the difference in neck type like AANJ and block joint.

if you have money, change it. if not, just stick with it

IMO its not worth it cos its one of the lower end Ibanez guitars. by just buying a replacement neck, you can buy the same guitar brand new if you top it up a little.

of course, the choice is still yours at the end of the day.

After much thought, I have decided to stay with what I have and not swap. Maybe I'll get a RG with dotted inlays and better bridge in the future.
