will there be any defects or problems if this is done?

i am planning to place an ibanez 24 fret neck on my ibanez s320 which has 22 frets

there might be intonation problems.

the scale length of your former neck is 25.5" but the new 24 fret neck might not measure up. it's not about the new neck being 'wrong' in length, it's about the distance from the nut to the bridge.

intonations problems are likely..problem is an understatement, most likely the guitar wont intonate properly at all.

it'll work if the 24 fret neck has the last 2 frets on an overhang (ie extra fretboard sticking out at the end) though depending on the position of the neck pickup it might be a tight squeeze or not fit at all..

yup but consider this scenario- the scale length of your new guitar is much longer/ shorter & no amount of bridge saddle adjustments can intonate it... this isn't a sure problem, just some precautionary considerations. i have a friend who tried to fix a 24-fret washburn neck into his ibanez body (which was formerly equipped with a 22fret neck) & this problem cropped up...

you can drill new holes in the cavity to rectify the distance 8-) however, if the neck is offset too much in the joint pocket:

1. & the new holes are too near the edge- may result in the reduction of stability, neck would creak when you handle, this affects tuning

2. old holes are there- unsightly

3. neck pocket gap might be visible (gap between neck & body)
