hey guys, just wondering cos i may wanna try it out if possible. ok so is it possible to change my fretboard entirely. as in cos mine is 22fret, but i wanna change it to a 24 fret. is it possible? also what are the consequences on the sound or playability or any other consequences at all?

what kind of guitar are you playing? if its bolt on like a fender strat it's much easier than if it's set neck like a lp or neck-through.

I suggest you drop the idea.

Firstly, replacing a fretboard is NOT cheap.
You're looking at at least half a grand. The old board needs to be removed, a new one made, refretted, the entire neck might need to be refinished. Bindings, set neck, inlays are more complications.

Secondly, pickups might be in the way.
If your neck pickup is in the way, you're gonna have to reroute. Which probably means refinishing as well. If you have a pickguard, that adds to complications.

Just buy a 24 fret guitar if you must have the extra 2 frets. Alternatively you can always do a full bend from the 22nd fret.

what guitar is it?just order another neck, and sell ur previous neck to help finace the purchase...BUT ...there are issues as mention above..even so it might not intonate properly and hte 24fret is too deep for u to reach, so might need to do a cutaway at the horn

best option ..sell ur guitar and get a new 24 fretter or 27 fretter :) just incase u need more frets ...

Yes, there are differences. If you CAN find a conversion neck to go from 22 to 24, you're affecting the harmonic position of your neck pickups. Your tone will be less open, and it's easier to get pinch harmonics on a 24 fretter.

It's easier to go from 21 to 22, but from 22 to 24, there's some big changes involved.

I'd rather buy a 2nd 24 fretter than mod a 22.

27 fretter? bass?

Yup. I guess with a bolt on neck it is easier to change the next, just unscrew the bolts that holds the neck to the body and replace the neck. You can probably find some decent custom necks right over at the the buy/sell section here or over at evilbay. Also do note that is it better to get necks that already have holes drilled onto them so you can actually change it on your own easily and you don't really need a techie to drill it for you and stuff to save some extra cash. From my knowledge, it won't affect your playing that much but do note that you have to reset-up(especially the neck bow part and intonations) yout guitar to prevent buzzing and other problems.

still, you can't simply change the neck from a 22 fret to a 24 fret even if it's bolt-on as you have to change a lot of things, like deeper cutaway etc.
