Metallica (-) mustaine
Pantera (-) dime
GnR (-) slash
Deep purple (-) blackmore
Blacksabbath (-) dio
Skid row (-) sebastian bach
Mr big (-) paul

list goes on...

come share your view and thoughts :D

Well i'll start first :)
Mr big w/o paul is still kinda great considering the line up:) billy and kotzen is still kinda great :D
after the late randy rhoads departed ozzy didnt really work out for me any more..
skid row losing bach was kinda a big change for me thou.. skid row just didnt sounded skid row to me :/
metallica <-- senstive topic haha anw if mustaine wasnt all alcoholic and drugged i bet he would have been pretty dam valuable tho

Genesis: They were a 70s prog rock band with Peter Gabriel (singer) and Phil Collins (drummer). When Peter left, Phil took over as the singer and Genesis became one of best selling bands of the 80s...changing from prog rock to synth pop-rock...for better or for worst? I'd say I have no comments but I love all the eras that Genesis did...we all know PG and PC had successful solo careers during the 80s... :)

Chicago: Late 60s-late 80s: A jazz rock band with Terry Kath (underrated guitarist and Hendrix even claimed that Terry was better than him) as guitarist and Peter Cetera on bass.
After Terry died, the 80s came and Chicago become a one of the best selling rock/pop ballads band with Cetera singing lead. Cetera eventually left and had a successful solo career.

Jefferson Airplane: 60s psychedelic band with Grace Slick as the singer with hits like Somebody To Love, White Rabbit etc....come to the 70s, some members left and some came, I think they were called Jefferson Starship...by the late 70s/80s, Mickey Thomas came and name changed to Starship and have hits like Sara, We Built This City, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now..

Ok that's all I can think of..:)

actually if we know who is the main guy or the main 2 guys who are the essence of the band, that is enough. Then we can follow the band's progress and know if their standard drop or increase,

Like the band Testament. The two main members (Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy) are always around, and as long as they're both around, Testament's gonna remain a killer band. :)

For bands like U2, however, where all four members are just so fitting, if any one of them were to be replaced, it won't be the same anymore.

I wish Chris D'Abaldo was still in Saliva...

As for POD, I'm glad Marcos is back in the fold. :)

And it's a pity Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan are no longer making music together...

agreed gnr is a band that all their members are irreplaceable even tho the fact remains that axl's a dick haha
as for blacksabbath, honestly i've always felt that dio was a much capable vocalist compared to ozzy.. but the fact remains that dio cant do songs that ozzy does great in eg, paranoid , iron man.. and while dio's heaven&hell is kick arse :D

love it when bands consist of that few powerpacks, even thou a weaker link departs they still sound as great, but sadly not all of em are like that :(
sadly this process kills great music man and worst still caused by stupid reasons leaving out deaths/freakaccidents eg. ego, monetary issues sigh :(

Sometimes, the weaker links leaving might be better for the band. In the case of Testament, Eric and Chuck wanted to go heavier and more brutal than they currently were. The others wanted a softer, more melodic direction. I personally liked it that way. Heavier and more brutal. \m/

But for U2, all four are powerpacks.

not a fan of u2 so i cant comment bout em..
but sometimes it's not totally bout being a master in your instrument, chemistry's pretty important too eh.. but with that said it's not easy to come buy a trump card after discarding one of your hands.. another thing is the psychological factor of whether being able to hold up to the fans expectation or handling any unwanted awkwardness for example how satch declining the offer to fill ritchie blackmore's place in deep purple due to being a fan of blackmore himself

rage against the machine without zack de la rocha
