Just wondering. I know this issue has been over long ago, 12 years ago to be exact, but it seems to be bothering me.

Personally, I feel that the old Cannibal Corpse sounded better. Chris Barnes' vocals had more of the feel and art of it. It sounds richer and deeper. He captured the idea of the songs better in some way. But Corpsegrinder just sounds as if he's trying to scream his lungs off. At least that was the impression he gave me. Also, I've noticed that Chris Barnes' vocals range is lower than that of Corpsegrinder's. And the instrumentals seem to click with Chris Barnes' vocals more. It was kind of a pity that Cannibal Corpse kicked him out supposedly due to "musical indifferences".

And well, I feel that Six Feet Under doesn't sound as good as the original Cannibal Corpse because the instrumentals aren't as heavy, distorted and it just lacks the X factor somehow.

I really miss the original Cannibal Corpse.

I prefer chris barnes than corpsegrinder.. And i think they've gone worse.. Not as brutal as before.. Even the new album looks stupid.

i personally feel corpsegrinder was way better than barnes. barnes sounds too low and muffled. and the new CC is much better since jack owen left. the new guitarist made thier songs even havier than the old albums. hear death walking terror and murder worship.

I prefer chris.. His vocals was more brutal lower.. It was nicer for me though a brutal death fan.. The new CC to me isnt as heavy or rather brutal for death metal fans. Corpsegrinder's vocals is only mediocre.. I prefer Tomb of the mutilated than kill. Kill doesnt sound that great to me. Thats my opinion though

I noticed one thing about Corpsegrinder's vocals. It varies from time to time.Sometimes it's hoarser than others. Which creates an imbalance throughout the song/album. While Chris Barnes' vocals stay smilar throughout. It gives the song its flow. Just my own opinion.

And because Corpsegrinder got higher vocal ranges, it lacks the brutality that's supposed to come with the instrumentations and the lyrics.

i think they're worse now. Not that i'm a fan but i just browse youtube and compare their performances in the past and present...

i like george's style of growl better...and barnes voclas never made it up with the music...it was to slow...i like george's 'rap' growl shit...its pretty nice...my vote goes to george!

Perverse Suffering anyone? Technical wise they're still there. To me as each album progresses their sound do get much more heavier and I really love the low end tones that they produce. Well their tuning is really low anyways so go figure.

For vocals, Chris Barnes and Corpsegrinder are two totally different people. Pretty much they have their own styles and that makes various identities for their respective albums. Cause you can't expect a band to sound the same throughout their whole career. In the end it'll just end up as a rehashed product.

But still Alex Webster will always be one of my bass heroes! And now he's working with Eric Rutan on the next Hate Eternal album! :D Oh yeah much credit to Eric Rutan for producing such heavy sounds for Cannibal Corpse.

Ok that's my 2 cents. 8)

i've been a huge fan of cannibal corpse for a very long time, and in my opinion both the vocalists are good, tho their styles vary quite alot. Corpsegrinder sounds and is in fact younger, and he has more of that energy to like make people go crazy in the mosh, and watch their live dvd from 1998 or 1999, he did a crazy version of hammer smashed face and he looked like he was gonna take off like a helicopter with the headbanging.

Barnes was a more scarier, brooding, crazier growls and more huskier. and dont take credit away from him coz he's prolly one of the fathers or grandfathers of extreme metal and death metal. but production on their earlier albums werent too good and maybe thats why he didnt sound all that great. but in my opinion he's shit awesome.

So at the end of the day, i find both of them equally awesome, and no, the rest of the band do in fact suit both vocalists perfectly. if u compare, their first few albums wasnt so melodic-ish as it is now (though they still are very very far from being really melodic). And yeah corpsegrinder is an awesome frontman and controls crowds well and he's actually a funny easygoing dude. so yeah. lets not quarrel about who's better or worse, and just love and respect the behemoths that are CANNIBAL CORPSE!
