Can guitar make techno sounds?

sure. Get an octave plus whammy. Listen to Satch's "searching" u will know wat i mean. for those percussive techno sounds, abit harder. Extensive eqing plus tapping on ur guitar body mite work. get a killswitch too ala buckethead.

nono whammy as in the whammy bar.... the tremolo bar which u swing up and down or press in and out of ure bridge

a simple way is to turn on your wah pedal (if you have one) and keep it in the middle position for a sort of 'processed' sound

Well it depends on what kind of techno you want to play lah..

Euro? Techno Trance?? heh heh..

Anyway..

To me.. using a bit of my delay with a phase shifter and a chorus.. I can get all sorts of cool funky sounds.. that sound like the begining of an epic techno hit.. hahahaha...

its just a kill switch.. and plus, there aint no scratching sounds in techno!
he uses the digitech whammy alot (with his trusty boss delay) to produce out of this world sounds..
combined with amp feedback (at times), and his killswitch thingy, he became the "dj" for RATM..

heh, to be more exact, what wud be the techno sound the threadstarter has in mind. Cos it seem like everyone has their own idea of techno sound in here.

piu piu piu or ter tsk ter tsk ter tsk or tiu tiu tiu

well ...I kinda salah wired my clapton gain boost initially on my strat...afterdat, it went "wooooooooo weeeeeee ...wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .............woooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh.....wooooooooooooo...... at volume 1-9 but at vol 10 it went chugga chugga chugga ...

Boss ME 30 multi effect has a rock modulator for tecnoesque sounds

arpeggiating kinda effect with plenty control- zvex seek/ooh wah/ring tone series, moog murf

random arpeggiating(not much control to tweak)- xotic robotalk,

gadget with arpeggiating effect and many other more with plenty of control- line 6 fm4

if not, some of korg or zoom multiefx has those arpeggiating efx too.

or if wanna more analog then zvex, connect 8 different brand of wah wah pedals together in series and have 4 pairs of leg to manipulate the pedals in real time while playing. Random filtering effect

oh, but the about still doesnt sound like techno sound thou. The distant between each arpeggiating notes are usually fixed and not able to tweak. Its mostly going in a straight line order as set by the pedal. So far i only came across one pedal with the arpeggiating function where you can play with the waveform length kinda, to create different arpeggiating pattern between the notes. But that pedal is a phaser as main feature.

Hey Pathein, thanks for your insights and suggestions...I guess the roland gr would do the job too, but im lookin more for a compact pedal(tink boss sized) to do the appergiated keyboard sound on guitar...any good recommendations? Personally i like the korg ax3000g with the ESS..you can actually manipulate the appegiated effect in real time with the expression pedal provided...only problem is im alr using single stom boxes, no point buying a huge multi-efx just for that particular one effect.

Hmm with regards to the phaser you mentioned, are you referring to the mxr phase 100?

the phaser is a discontinued prophecysound infinitphase. Its a mix of mutron bi phase with sample and hold thingy.

heh, i remember something else which has the arpeggiating effect plus other functions(but bigger than boss size, smaller than big multiefx size, i think), that come in whammy pedal wize and onboard expression control. Its one of my favourite modulation pedal, even thou the bypass sucks and the global volume which affect every thing in the chain of effect kinda bad. But for what it can do, it rocksss.

i mean this below. The thing been discontinued a long while, but sweelee seem to still have the stock. But not sure if anyone did a clean sweep for this during the last sale they had thou. This series of effect from digitech(other than the xp100 whammy wah) can do some interesting modulation stuff in pedal format. Only problem as mentioned earlier, is the bypassed and volume issue.

wow super cool! I think i saw this at swee lee, not too sure also cos i haven went there for quite awhile. Only thing i heard the digitech is quite digital sounding....and well, like what you mentioned the bypass issues... which means i'll have to probably get a looper for it to make sure it dosent affect my signal.....

Hmm i checked out the ZVEX website, must say im quite tempted by the ooh wah/ and the moog murf, although the latter is a bit out of my budget for now. Maybe after chinese new year maybe. I checked out the robotalk also....not much control but it sounds good...but can it do tremolo function? hoping i could get a pedal that could double up as an appergiator and tremolo as well...saves up on valuable pedalboard real estate.

my GAS for modulations are now...well severe. hai

Heh, those digitech series when it was still in production, not much ppl like it, after it was discontinued and some people realised that it can do some sound(regardless of the digital side of things) which is quite interesting, the price sorta went up quite a bit on ebay. Got a dude who can do mod for this series of digitech pedals, send him one pedal, he will mod it and burn the rom program of all the 4 different xp series in one pedal.

Arpeggiater and trem, zvex got a seek tremolo which might be interesting. check out the video demo from zvex site
