Can Bands Still Sell Out Albums Without Labels.?

well if a band didn't have a label, the amount of cds they'd be able to produce would be extremely limited, so yea, i guess so :P

Can wat..........i mean u must have $$$$$$$ and u must have the spirit???? Well U guys can just make one but i suggest u giv out for free first till u r abit known by many pple then u guys shuld sell.:D

well they do produce good album even without big label backing them up, what matters is the band produce good music!!

well it's possible if an indiependent band to be selling out their albums, but sooner or later after they have done that, the major labels will give them an offer eg. sponsors, royalty etc. and with limited expenses, they might want to accept the offer and score for the mainstream masses..

and that's when indiependent labels save their asses..

Hurhurhur, this is where we is comes in to speak...

What the majors can give... and in much smaller amounts are advances which means an upfront loan. What the majors can provide are financial muscles (you have to pay 'em back yo!) and excellent distribution channels. Gotch no money to pay back. Take another advance from the label to go on tour. Hopefully, you are able to cover everything and make back to pay the label!

However, the rise of mp3 is killing all of us. So the artists are charging more in terms of performance fees to make up for the lack of album sales, transferring the costs to us the consumers. Ironic, isn't it?

It's independent, btw. Indie is a slang or a "short-form" if you will.

yep!
but producing good music is not enough sometimes though it's quite the most important factor,
however you need make some "buzz" too or ppl will never know who you re.
just a say.

I was so happy when my previous band managed to sell all 100 copies of our EP back then...

So yah.. It was "sold out"...

Hehz...

an example of a band that still continues to be successful without being tied down to a major label is Switchfoot. they started their own indie label after being in disagreement with their prior label. but hey, the system works for us too. if you have the contacts, the business know-how and most importantly - the musical ability and the large potential audience, these factors will definitely help you if you wanna go out there and make it on your own (and not factors like 90% ticket sales :D)

without a label, it just means that everything is very independent and everything has to be done by yourself. If a band is good, they will still get there, just that it takes longer and with a label pretty much everything is done for you.

a band can get big without a label. look at myspace as a good music networking opportunity. [:
a label can get u big locally, with internationally might still be an issue. [:

i would let people download my band's mp3s for free and then make money selling MERCHANDISE

imagine people walking around with my face on their t-shirts. that is priceless

this question is like "Can you sell roti prata if you don't have a shop?"

Actually you can if you know how but it is very tough. Yeah Switchfoot is such a band and they are great. Without a label, it means you have to do everything on your own. Everything from head to toe including publishing and marketing.

I believe that it is possible for a band without a label to achieve far more than anything we've seen locally, even with a label.

Internationally, that remains to be seen. Eventually economies of scale will come into play. But none of us have that happy problem just yet.

Even then, you can sell your music online, so if you have the will and you put in the effort, you can and will find a way to achieve what you want to achieve.

'In Rainbows' was distributed without a major label. Even more amazingly, via pay-as-you-wish -- online. (I got the full box set for my frontman's birthday.)

But this is Radiohead. They've established themselves with years of hard work, which makes their 'gamble' a definite pay-off.

Imho, it can be done if you really push for the sales. Take Integrated Marketing -- namely Advertising, PR, marketing and the works -- there are a LOT of mediums you can utilise to get yourselves heard in this day and age, even for those with a tight budget. The Internet has opened many, many doors.

Finally, have decently-recorded songs at least, please.
