Ladies and Gents,

i was just wondering, has anyone ever gone to the Wacken Fest in Germany? Care to share ur experience with us? This would make a rather interesting Thread i believe.

For those who aren't sure what I'm talking about.. heres the link to the bands playing this year. ( too bad tix are sold out!!... makes SingFest look like a small gig man... haha, No offense to the organizers man.. u guys are doing a gd job bring in awesome acts to our lil island, Gotta respect you guys for that.)

Anyway, another question has been pondering in my head. Is there a group that organizes tours* or something like that here in singapore?... It would be rather cool to see a big group of Singaporeans heading there to 5 days of heading banging to the love of metal. Kinda like a Pilgrimage to one of the biggest metal fest around.

I was looking at the web site and noticed that there can be block bookings for camp sites but for groups no smaller then 150 pax. Maybe someone whu's been there can advise on this and maybe organize a group. We couldd all share the cost too i guess... well wat do u think guys... gimme your Shout outs AND COMMENTS soon. Thnks.. i wanna see all u metal head represent!!! \m/

cheers

Good to see someone else interested in Wacken! My friend and I are hoping to go there next year, depending on money and line up...don't know if you can find 150 people to book a campsite though! Campsites are a problem from what I've read...many people who go late get the ones next to the toilet trenches. What kind of metal you into?

I wouldn't mind going sometime for the atmosphere and the metal market.
Each year the Wacken team seems to be bringing in more and more mainstream 'metal' acts to the point that i'd almost not want to go.
I mean, this year's lineup is pretty poor in my opinion but i suppose they just want to widen their audience and make more money...
Out of the bands playing this year i'd only pay to watch Watain, Nifelheim, Grave, Gorgoroth (but not Gaahl & King's version) and maybe Ensiferum.

hmmm, maybe someone whu's workin in a travel agency might know the "know hows" to organizing such an event. Anyone out there care to address this matter? It "might" be even cheaper as a package. I also saw options of renting caravans which might be a better option for those who might not like the idea of slping next to the toilet. Maybe if there is enuff publicity, eg. the way zouk publicize zoukout not just in singapore but too overseas market via local magazines, radio ads and every other form of medium. You "could" find 150 people. Any senior rockers out there knows how to organize such events at a bigger scale, other then just by word of mouth? Event organizers, here's a tot for u to ponder on. "might" be a good idea. ;)

If there are bands you like, watch them...if there are bands you don't like, go get more beer. Personally, I would get a beer when any line up of Gorgoroth come up...but I don't begrudge their fans a chance to watch them. 'Mainstream' or not...if you're good you're good. ;)

Well, i think its more of the overall experience then who plays there... just imagine, headbanging with thousands of others like us. It sure would be nice if we could get the ball rolling on some ideas on how we can spread the word, and "hopefully" get a substantial amount of people there. Too bad singapore population too small... maybe can collabo with malaysia and indon... that would be super awesome man...

Khaos, you have some good ideas! I agree with you about the headbanging part for sure!!! Last metal gigs I went to here was Megadeth and Black Sabbath, I've been having withdrawal symptoms ever since.

i know watca mean my bro, its just that i lack the contacts and the know hows on how to organise and advertise such an idea here in Singapore. All i can do is suggest an idea... but since i lack the general knowledge of how to get this kind cohesion, thats where i fail. I highly urge anyone to maybe offer some knowledge and ideas on how to, say, attract, sponsors/ advertise/ publish and the overall logistic and coordination of the whole thing... probably someone whu has ever brought a tour group around b4 can share he's exp... its would help. Not too sure whether it might be relevant thou. but maybe its an idea.

Metal Pilgrimage.... hahaha

Metal pilgrimage for sure!!! Maybe we can all talk to as many as possible and get a tentative number confirmed then see how it looks.

well, maybe for a start, since. Wacken 08 is sold out. Can start planning for Wacken 09. Wat i highly suggest is to first spread the word. Not many people actually know about this fest. (which is kinda Sad if u ask me) Awareness is the key. Then when more people in singapore know about this fest only can this lil project be successful.

Secondly, we "might" have to lias with the organizer in Germany to see whether there can be batch booking for tix, since they already state that they have bookings for min 150 people for their camping areas. Anyone on soft speaks or write in german?... hahaha( i sure wouldn't want to offend anyone by saying the wrong things... hahaha

I feel the local scene mags are a gd place to get some feedback regarding some stats. Anyone working in there care to state he/ her feelings bout this statement?

I'm not too sure whether u can get a gd rate with the airlines if we were to get a huge number of pax. It all boils down first to how many people we can gather first. Only from there can we work out a total cost.

watca think guys/ gals?

Yea I'd like to head up and do a roadtrip of all the European Metal festivals. Takes major planning and saving though...would be awesome going in a big group. Who's up for it?

from what I heard from friends and a cousin who's been there, its wiser to buy the festival pass for all days, then book a rather cheapo hotel nearby. transport can be a lovelovelovelovelove tho, coz it aint connected like Singapore, and wacken isnt exactly the town. But taxi's are fine. finishes late at night, and the partying often never stops. head back for a few hours of sleep, next morning have breakfast there with booze, mosh, lunch, mosh, beer, yeah. for us who can mostly dream of such experiences, it seriously is a pilgrimage. and they have a few stages, so yeah you'll have some of the shitty 'new age' metal bands, and then there's like the black stage and all where its the purists and pure black and death stuff.

and i've been keeping in touch with almost every year's lineup, and trying to catch vids. next year should be amazing, coz metallica should have released their album, morbid angel also would have, motorhead coming out soon, the list goes on really. I've got army next year, but once army's over i'm certain to go!

after watching headbager's journey who wouldnt wanna go! hahaha. maybe when i start working den got enuff money to go. now... haiz...

I'm up for it man Khaos! Can say for sure a friend will go as well...all we need now is another 147 people and we go! But seriously, must think of camping gear and other logistics as well, distorted soul's idea of staying in a town is the norm from what I've read but will be more expensive as everything is in euro$...most Germans can speak and read English so should be ok.

I more concerned with what bands will be going though.

wow guys... glad to see u guys so super interested. maybe might have to ask the consensus on whu's ok with camping out... and whu wants to slp on a bed... cuz the 150 pax thingy is actually a reservation for a spot at the camping area. I dunno bout u guys... but i feel camping out would be much better of an experience, cuz i've heard of like a 1001 stuff that goes on thru the nite... people singing/ shows and wat not... kinda like a a mini festival in a festival...

so for me... its camping out. watca think?
