Bypass

Huh? What do you mean? Absolutely no sound colouration when bypassed? How about the impedance between in and out?

hur hur hur...

true bypass = one wire going from one connector to the other.

hard wire bypass = to... uhmmm... same as above...

bypass bypass bypass...

as long as its a pedal made in this era of boutique pedal boom... all pedals MUST be true bypassed. Standard feature.

it shouldn't be even mentioned cos it is not like a OH WOW.... OH TECHNOLOGICAL FEAT!!! OH ULTRA RARE TRUE BYPASS SWITCH!!!!

Almost all boutique builders uses the SAME blue 3PDT switch that is made in Taiwan that enables true bypass. I know Zvex uses a different switch and so does Banzai. Fulltone switches looks the same but dunno if it is from the same factory in taiwan. Wotever, who cares. The blue 3PDT switches do the job and do it VERY well compared to USA Carling switches thats made in Mexico that fails ALL the time.

but then... Retail business is ALL about Marketing and for me... better put in case i keep getting questions like...

"Is your pedal true bypassed?"

arrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh....

before I answer your question or attempt to...

do you know what is impedance and how does it affect your tone?

Some people do really really appreciate and want that true bypass.... so, I'll be the first to say it, I appreciate your pedals are true bypass compatible.

You didn't get the gist of my rant...

ALL... i mean ALL boutique pedals made at this time and age SHOULD BE, MANDATORY, WITHOUT ANY QUESTION AT ALL...

be true bypassed.

Else, they're SUPER ILLEGAL... or they belong to the other school of thought which is "My Buffered Bypass Eats Your True Bypassed Pedal for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner and occasionaly Tea and Supper."

I did... but I didn't want to reply to that. :P But instead choose to focus on the obscure!

Aiyah, the market flows, the market moves... if it came to the point where "No True Bypass" becomes the anthem of the pedal market, how would you respond? Or rather, in lieu of the TB craze now, it was the opposite?

Some buffer circuits are designed better than others. According to Tech 21, even switches carry some impedance.

If this is true (which I believe so), even having an expensive 3PDT on your pedals would defeat the original purpose.

According to a pedal maker friend of mine, buffer circuit that's not properly designed will alter the tonal qualities of the pedal. So in the end he uses true bypass. But if it's done right, it'll help to preserve your tone while driving long cables.

The perfect solution would be to use no effects at all and go straight to the amp. Can you say "dynamics"? Of course this is not a popular approach in this forum (am I right or am I right?).

The next best thing is to have a buffer pedal in the beginning of your signal chain, and use true bypass pedals for the rest.

I love my boss pedals.

The tech21 article refers to vintage old switches and vintage specs.

The only way to know the capacitance and its inherant resistance of the contacts 3PDT switch is to measure them.

I don't have the equipment to measure capacitance and I don't trust my multimeter enough to read... 0-1ohms and anything inbetween it.

0-1ohms means VERY VERY small resistance.

Of course I won't do all these for the very reason that... The 3PDT SOUNDS OK when bypassed and I'm more than happy with em.

Being anal have never been my favourite past time.

Ah yes my friend. In the end, it boils down to what you hear.

I still love my Boss pedals, true bypass or otherwise.

Some pedals like a fuzz face require a high impedence input. Ergo, a fuzz face will sound horrible after any Boss pedal. Buffers can preserve tone yes. Buffers can preserve impedence no.

The key word is 'like'. Fake shark fin soup tastes 'like' shark fin too. As do fake egg yolks and fake LV wallets.

Erm, aren't yout that dodgy builder? So that means...

Neither can long cables preserve tone. You can always place your fuzz before the buffer. Cheers.

Yep, pros and cons. As such, I never blanket say either is the best, but knowledge of which to us, when, and where is key.

spare the dodgy builder!

haha ED, i like your southpark pic, how about a dodgy Southpark inspired pedal? Custom order man......... :D

I look exactly like that. Just that my Masters of Puppets tshirt is now down at the dumps... just like Metallica.

Custom orders? Custom graphics? Limited edition?

MORE $$$$$$$$$???????

Hell yeah! bring it on!!!!
