buying pedals

I have been on a hunt for delay pedals recently- memory man ,etc. I have found out that for most music shops, they will sell you the pedal that they had taken out from the box for everyone to test, for the same price! Isn't that considered selling a secondhand good? I don't call a pedal that everyone has stepped on or used, new. Its like when you want to buy a dvd, lets say the dark knight. you ask the sales person for a copy and he/she will take a copy of a dvd that has been playing on the store's dvd player that helps showcase the TVs that they are selling, put it in the dvd casing and sell it to you. Is this practice of selling test pedals allowed? Shouldn't i get a discount since i thought new pedals are those that reside in a box, sealed, unopened, and not touched by anybody? or am i just too choosy? you may argue that selling guitars are like that but guitars are different, as in they have different woods, etc. pedals are just electronic goods! they have the same sepcs, just like a dvd player! you don't see best -denki staff putting a store used dvd player into a box and selling it to customers do you?

I thought they usually have test pedals for people to try? Don't flame me, I've never bought a pedal from any shops. Almost all were bought 2nd hand. Except once at TYMC but I forgot how it all went.

well...there are some who rather take testing sets, proves that its working perfectly! seriously.. lol...

If you request for a new one, test it too. Make sure that it works. :p

I'm not sure if they will give you a new one when you request, though. When I bought one of my pedals from Standard Value, it came directly from the box. Perhaps tested before, but I wouldn't know. I liked it so much that I just bought that very pedal, on the spot.

You made a simple problem that can be solved using plain common sense into an issue.

well, its kinda like an observation actually, I've requested for new ones but the sales people just say that they only have one. It just kinda bothers me that the sales people are just fine with thinking that people do not mind tested pedals sold as new ones.

actually even for test pedals, its also new pedal.

it aint the sales folk fault also. Thats the way which the shops functioned. Hehe, even if its new from box, seriously, one will never know that it has not been open and played with. Other than self psychologically assuring by seeing the shop people taking a new box out, theres no guarranty that nobody has play with that "supposingly new" unit thats being sold to you.

Anyway, if really partcicular about it, just buy online. In that case, other than the aunties/uncles who assembled the memoryman, qc tester, package folks at EH, theres be definitely less people stepping on those.

Oh anyway, when buying from local shops, even though its a display set, usually it will be covered under the warranty(receipt with date of purchase). If anything goes wrong, at least one can go back shop, bang table and make noise.

Compared to buying online just so lesser folks touched it, the warranty thing is more useful and save much hassle of returning.

theres pros and cons anyway.

Why is the issue about the pedal's "virginity"?

Shouldn't it be about its utility?

Anyway PatheinRaindropMoe is right... Its working, and warranty to ensure its continued condition even after you bring it home. I don't see any problems...

+1 to the post above.

Virginity VS. Utility of Pedal = ROFLMAO

Then again, if the shop doesn't have a display set and so happen that you wanna try a delay pedal to "feel" how it is like.

-Salesperson takes a "BRAND NEW" piece out of box for customer to try-

-Customer Steps-

Customer: "Sorry, not my kind of pedal"

-Salesperson places it up shelves-

~~Boomz/Shingz~~ = '2nd Hand?'

Ok, now everyone will feel that the pedal has lost its virginity.

Sucks to be the pedal~

lol@above anecdote. Its kinda personal actually, like how some people do not mind 2nd hand stuff, while SOME people only want NEW stuff that has been virtually untouched by others. Pretty subjective

well..might as well go the the factory or whatsoever place and get the pedal there then. hahaha xD

Put it this way..

U tested the pedal and decided to buy it..

Now u ask for a new one..

The sales person set it up for u and he test it to make sure it is ok n working..

In the end u still test it so what the different?

Will u take that as it is a 2nd hand pedals?

I believe the shops that r selling the pedals take real gd care of it..
