hmm i'm not sure whether i want a warm sound or bright tone.. my current guitar is made of neutral sounding bass wood . what exactly is a warm tone?

something fat, rich and deep. a bright tone would be sharp and piercing and probably glassy if clean.

Since you already know how to play and know what you want, travel around Singapore and try out everything that catches your eye before making a decision. Swee Lee, Davis, Luther, Guitar 77, Guitar Connection, so on so forth. Do NOT let anyone pressurise you, or your mother, to say OK I'll buy this one. Best is you try out 1st, after you decide then you bring your mom down.

haha damn you make me sound like a mommas boy.. haha actually no.1 i go for sound , no2 i go for looks

i prefer warm tone.. and i want something that can handle heavier strings for drop d, and i'm currently using a metalzone for effects

Why dont you go and have a look at the guitars that the shops are selling?? Pick your best and decide on the choices you made.. The best guitar always bring the best out of you..

Cheers :D

Yea, also, you could do an aftermarket mod by installing the Hipshot D-tuner. Drops your E to D with a flick of a switch. :D

how do i differentiate what is coming from the guitar, and what is coming from the amp.. i wont want the guitar to sound like crap when i bring it home and plug it to my amp

What kind of amp do you have at home? If you can find a similar amp to test the guitar, do so...

Anyway, if a guitar sounds good, its good... There shouldn't be THAT much of a diff.

Unless you are telling me you are using one of those Yamaha 10 watt practice amps at home... then of course, any good guitar thru that will not be at its best. ;)
