Buying hardware

I'd like to do a mini-project on resurrecting an old guitar of mine, but there are some things I wanna clarify...

The guitar's body is a strat-copy that initially had a SSH configuration with 2 knobs, will a pickguard made for SSS with 3 knobs fit the body? Or would I have to carve the cavity even further; I don't plan on doing this.

I would also like to get a new neck, but how would I go ahead in measuring it so I will get one that fits?

Thanks.

Pickguard: If it's just pick up routing wise, it should fit. However, the original screw holes might not fit. You might need to dowel the existing holes and redrill the new ones.

Neck: Take note if the original neck is 21 or 22 frets. after that, measure the width of the neck pocket. Using a normal ruler will do. In the event that the neck you gotten is slightly bigger than the neck pocket, you can always sand down the neck pocket.

Okay thanks.

One more thing, what's the difference between regular and mini tuning keys? Will minis fit strat necks?

Hello Ikiru,

The mini tuners and regulars are just basically for looks. I'm just guessing. But mini tuners can also be used for necks that have smaller spacings between the pegs and cant fit the regular sized ones. One more thing, there is this saying that the heavier the headstock is, the more sustain it will provide to the overall tone. SO think it is better to choose the regular sized one (:

Anyway, before you buy a pickguard, open your pickguard and check to see the routing. Some guitars have the swimming pool routing which fits any kind of pickup config. The advantage about having a pickguard to me is that you can easliy drill a hole on it, unlike those non pickguard ones.

Hey, yeah I've checked that, definitely swimming pool routing. Was just worried that the extra pot won't fit or something. Thanks for the heads up :)
