Buying Fender Strats

I wonder if there are many people out there wanting to buy good fender strats but have found it quite expensive to buy at our local stores?

i think that the shops mark up way too much
what i do is i test them in the shops and buy them online
much cheaper and reliable

i am facing this problem too. Our local shops is really asking too much for a normal MIA fender guitar. There are a few fenders that i will like to buy but can't due to the high price. And i prefer to buy them new.

Is there any way we can get them at a more reasonable price?

Example, for a MIA std stratocaster, it is about $1.6k (plus, minus) if i import from US. Inclusive of fender hard case, guitar & all shipping costs. In Singapore, i went ard and ask, it will cost about $2.3 to $2.5k, some just come with a soft gig bag.

Find it really hard to pay so much when it is actually the same guitar.

Anyone feels the same? :(

one more time: which shops?

are you referring to the guitars' list price which are indeed above $2k but subject to discount?

No no no. $2k plus is after discount.... their best price..... There are only a few shops in Singapore.......

The American Standard Strat (now known only as the American Strat) always comes with a form fitted hard case. Only the Highway 1 strats come with a gig bag, and those are way cheaper than you've mentioned.

More reliable? Really? Uh... ok. Either you don't own any MIA strats or you're not a very fussy player...

Yep. I know abt the highway ones. The American Strat are still a bit pricely..... imho.... Just to share this and see whether if there is any other ways to get a new one at a lower price....

swee lee is very expensive - subversion

i wonder if anyone has bought from ebay and muscianfriends or any other online stores and had some positive or neg exp?

Is there anything not pricey in Swee Lee? (there! I said it!) But I've bought 3 American Vintage Strats from them, so I should be the one complaining the most!!!!

monk, we might be able to put our orders together if this is workable.

u might wanna contact sweetwater.com . musicanfriend.com doesnt do direct shipping to singapore . sweetwater does, u need to email them

one word of advise on buying strats. They are such an inconsistency, I'd never buy one blind. Strats, unlike Ibanez guitars, must be tested individually and extensively BEFORE buying. Otherwise you'll end up with a dud, and there's really nothing you can do.

I agree.

Guitars are interesting, every piece is different. You gotta try them all out and then pick the one that speaks to you.

Unfortunately, Swee Lee stock turn around isnt very quick. So that is the dilemna.

You could always try G77.
There are quite a few MIJ ones there, not too sure about MIA ones though.
And yeah they really don't mind you trying their stuff out.
