Buying an Electric Guitar soon! Need some opinions!

Hi guys, as the title says, I hope to be able to get my first electric guitar. I have been playing with my Maestro acoustic guitar for about 2 and a half weeks now and I am going for lessons, learning new stuff each time I pick it up to play. I am hoping to mainly play rhythm guitar and maybe an occasional solo or two. My favourite guitarist would have to be Noel Gallagher and favourite band, Oasis. My aim is to be able to be proficient in both acoustic and electric at the same time, and play in a band too. I like Indie Rock, Alternative, British Rock and Jap Rock mainly.

Okay, enough about me. So I am planning to get my first electric guitar and have narrowed down my choices to 2 models. First is the Schecter Omen 6 Extreme, and second the Cort M520. My budget is about $700 including an amplifier. Hopefully I can get an Epiphone Valve Junior with the budget!

The reason I chose the above 2 guitars is because of their versatility, both having dual humbuckers and coil-tap function. As I am new to the electric guitar I gathered that having different types of sounds would allow me to set my preferences and get a kickass guitar next time :).

I just wanna know of the opinions from you guys about my choices and I will definitely go down and try both guitars out. Are my choices good for a beginner? Do you people have any other recommendations to offer or any advice?

Thanks a lot to any who reply!

buy a guitar first then save up and get the amp later? , 700 bucks gets you a decent japanese fender or american highway one !

I don't really intend to spend more on my first guitar and amp so I will stick with my current budget for both equipment.

Also, does anyone have any other recommendation for amps? I am looking to get one which has a good clean channel to hook up with pedals. Budget hopefully around $200-250.

Epi VJ is a good choice that will last you through your playing for a quite a while, since versatility and the use of pedals are your main staple.

A quick search obver gogle showed me this about your Cort:

Not sure if it's the right one, but if it is... I would personally go for the Schecter as it would be a more versatile guitar tonewise, than the warmer, mid-tone inclined Cort. The extra neck length of the Schecter would not be an issue for you as you would have experience with fretting and chord work already, owing to the fact that you had been playing acoustics.

Then again it is best for you to try both guitar out, and see if you like how it feels in your hand.

Good luck!

i'm not sure about the guitar but $250 is definitely not enough for a epi valve jr. if it there is an offer for it to be 250, i won't tell u! heheh.

some amps to check out for that budget:

vox pathfinder 15 or 15r - good cleans, not really good overdrive ~120 for 2nd hand

roland cube 15 or 15x - good cleans, good onboard dist ~not sure price but fits budget

randall ninja 30w - subversion personally said it has above average cleans n distortions. many trust his words. haha ~$250 1st hand i think

peavey transtube series - tried a transtube. love the cleans. not sure which model was it. was in the testing room at blackwood.

EDIT: while u check on standardvalue*above post* check out sound drive amps. seen good reviews bout them.
