Buying a new Strat

Hi

I have decided to buy a new Fender Stratocaster.

I had a look in Swee Lee, and they have a selection of US strats that I might be interested in. This is what they are quoting me (after discount).
Can anyone comment as to what is reasonable for these?

Yngwie Malmsteen Strat - White/Maple $2800
U.S. Standard Strat - Red/Rosewood $2226
Eric Clapton Strat - Greenish/Maple $3200

Has anyone bought any of these recently at Swee Lee (Bras Basah, not Sims) and got a better price? It's for use here - not export.

Thanks

Vern

as a reference, sweelee usually gives around 20-25% off the "retail" price tags on the guitars. u can try for 30%, but u'll simply drive a very hard bargain. more likely, it's 25% plus all the freebies u can think off ur mind (hardcase, free picks, bla bla bla.)

and why don't you consider other strats while you're at it? george & leo has great teles & strats, and was established by the maker of fender guitars, leo fender. (www.glguitars.com) Fernandes is also a viable alternative... just do a search on ebay for japanese Fernandes strat copies.. they look good, are well made and sound great.

A typical Guitars By Leo guitar lasts longer than a Fender. Unfortunately, no one brings them in anymore. I got mine GnL from a second hand shop.

there'll be a new shipment of Fenders mid August (Swee Lee), maybe you'd like to wait & see the new stuff before deciding... 8)

Thanks for all your input guys.

In fact, I had read in one of the other threads that one can actually get 40% off the marked price of alot of stuff at Swee Lee, e.g. the marked $3500 for a Malmsteen Strat may become as low as $2100 (which is much more in line with the prices that I've seen on Harmony Central, albeit a little out of date).

Regarding the other brands of guitars, I note your point that there are other (often superior) comparable brands such as G&L and Fernandes, but like you say, these are kinda hard to get hold of here. I've always wanted a 'proper' US made Strat, since I've had Squiers and Mexicans, so this one I'm gonna buy is gonna be one for the permanent collection, so it has to be a Fender this time. :)

Thanks for all your advice - the tip about the new shipment is also useful.

Cheers

Vern

haha... just giving u alternative stuff... since you're already gonna spend so much on a guitar. personally for me, 2nd hands still rock

i'm in the market for a strat myself, gonna check out the light ash strat if it makes the next shipment...
