Considering all the factors of a good LP at abt 1kplus, which brand do u guys out there think is a gd to buy.......

Sorry there seems to be some prob with my com, tokai doesn't seems to be appearing.... so which brand would u guys choose? Tokai, Epi or Burny consideration everything..

Standard LP from Epi shld be abt 700plus, tokai not very sure, Burny 900plus

Nowadays the Epi Lp is made in china, so for me it is narrow down to Burny & Tokai......

not all epis are made in china..only the lower grade ones.. and i dont think MIC goods are that bad in quality at all. i think the epis resemble the real les paul more..the burnys and tokais look pretty un-les paul and hideous imo

Hmm..... I owned a made in china Epi Standard Plus before, the QC on that guitar was quite bad.....

So now i would think twice before i buy a make in china LPs

the entire Epi LPs are going to China very soon. this is to make way for the 'affordable' Gibson versions which are gonna be in store in the near future.

is there suppossed to be a Tokai option in the poll? that's where my $$ would go to. i've played 'em in the stores & would own one in time to come simply because of the fantastic feel & tone. i refering to the Jap models here.

there are brand names who simply copy the outline of a popular guitar to propels sales & there are the rest who copy to capture the vibe of the original model in the hope of showing the whole world that they could do it better.

Burny makes good LP copies, their tone is impressive but it's all their own. my bout with the Burny copies are the feel- quite removed from the LP's but that's not a bad thing isn't it? a good guitar is a good guitar, regardless of its manifestation. however, if you are genuinely after something very close to the real thing, then you'd do well to invest in something very close & uncompromising. otherwise, we'd know that you are just embracing a false sense of security by owning a guitar with a popular outline.

I have tried almost all these guitars that i am to write about, but again, it's just my opinion. These are the axes that can match a real Gib and within your budget:

Epiphone Elite series or their vintage models (when it was still made in Japan). The Elite series you can get it at Swee Lee. The vintage models, not too sure, got to search in 2nd hand market. Don't get those normal Epi models - they are really budget standard.

Tokais are good, but get the LS120 series and above. Heard from Davies that they are bringing in, but don't know when. Those they have now are the LS80 models, which is not that impressive. Alternatively, you can get them at Ishibashi online. Will be cheaper than Davies, but you cannot try... in my opinion, i think it is more important that you can try it out.

Burny... don't touch the MIK or china models... get the Burny Supergrade (MIJ) or those MIJ with their VH-1 pickups. I have heard that Guitar 77 is bringing new ones in (don't know if it will be the MIJ series), but have not seen it around till now. if you don't mind 2nd hand you can go to www.orangeguitar.com. there is a local guy selling.

you may want to consider Orville by Gibson. well, it is a Gibson just that it is made in Japan. the pickups are US Gibson pickups.

those guitars above will stand shoulder to shoulder in terms of quality. but the price of Tokai will be more expensive. this is likely because they have the platform to command a higher price since they are one that is marketed in the west.

cheers!
