Budda Budwah
List: $318
The Budda Budwah’s reputation precedes its sheer presence. You’d most probably have heard about it but its availability is rather elusive…
Users who are into immaculate wah tone would tell you that it’s a fine investment. We owe it to the backbone of this company, who are amplifier buffs to begin with. Subsequent tinkering with pedal electronics resulted in products which are trimmed to the amplifier’s response more than the article’s performance & make per se.
However, it should be made known that the Budwah’s overall construction & fittings are top notch & far from being shoddy. What you get, cosmetically, is a typical wah pedal in looks: rocker lever/ pot activated sweep range/ tough tank-grade chassis/ ribbed rubber grip in necessary locations & that mild purple hue isn’t actually a catalyst for angst-laden performances. Visually, the Budwah isn’t hype at all but it’s all about tone here…
Why is the Budwah tone much revered among seasoned rockers & fledglings alike? When you hear the pedal in action, it’s rather obvious that the manufacturer’s intention was to provide a more focused top-end to prevent the wah from being too nasal sounding. This is a plus when one employs this pedal with some drive/ distortion/ fuzz in the mix. The Budwah also excels in the clean department both with single coils/ humbucker equipped guitars. Upon deactivation, this mammoth doesn’t clip your volume as it’s a hard-bypass unit. Your guitar’s inherent output/ tone remains true.
While wah-purists would applaud the Budwah for its top end clarity, there are others who insist on that indeginous nasal honk from theirs; it’s all about the Hendrix tone reminiscence for them. Tone mongers would do well to keep in mind that the Budwah’s offering remains true to the classic benchmark, it is in no way an extroverted, space-aged, alien-voiced wah pedal; the mandatory ingredients are in tact, the plus point being its much commendable top-end.
For those who are hunting for a traditional sounding wah with a preference for a little more clarity, the Budwah is highly recommended.
