Budda Budwah
List: $318

The Budda Budwah’s reputation precedes its sheer presence. You’d most probably have heard about it but its availability is rather elusive…

Users who are into immaculate wah tone would tell you that it’s a fine investment. We owe it to the backbone of this company, who are amplifier buffs to begin with. Subsequent tinkering with pedal electronics resulted in products which are trimmed to the amplifier’s response more than the article’s performance & make per se.

However, it should be made known that the Budwah’s overall construction & fittings are top notch & far from being shoddy. What you get, cosmetically, is a typical wah pedal in looks: rocker lever/ pot activated sweep range/ tough tank-grade chassis/ ribbed rubber grip in necessary locations & that mild purple hue isn’t actually a catalyst for angst-laden performances. Visually, the Budwah isn’t hype at all but it’s all about tone here…

Why is the Budwah tone much revered among seasoned rockers & fledglings alike? When you hear the pedal in action, it’s rather obvious that the manufacturer’s intention was to provide a more focused top-end to prevent the wah from being too nasal sounding. This is a plus when one employs this pedal with some drive/ distortion/ fuzz in the mix. The Budwah also excels in the clean department both with single coils/ humbucker equipped guitars. Upon deactivation, this mammoth doesn’t clip your volume as it’s a hard-bypass unit. Your guitar’s inherent output/ tone remains true.

While wah-purists would applaud the Budwah for its top end clarity, there are others who insist on that indeginous nasal honk from theirs; it’s all about the Hendrix tone reminiscence for them. Tone mongers would do well to keep in mind that the Budwah’s offering remains true to the classic benchmark, it is in no way an extroverted, space-aged, alien-voiced wah pedal; the mandatory ingredients are in tact, the plus point being its much commendable top-end.

For those who are hunting for a traditional sounding wah with a preference for a little more clarity, the Budwah is highly recommended.

Budwah & Tube Slammer are available @ Tymusiccentre: www.tymysiccentre.com

the Budwah is a classic sounding unit with a touch of clarity that many would appreciate. if only cit omes with more options like Ibanez's Weeping Demon, then it'll be a formidable pedal.

Hey sub, dont mind me asking some qns...

Ive heard alot of the budda but nv tried them... Seems like its a more vocal n higher quality vox, or thats what i read at least. Heard it b4, but nv tried them.

So, how does it compare to other high end wahs like the RMC and fulltone.

THANKS

Just for info. Standard Value @ Woodlands Centre sells a Wah pedal for less than $100. just like the pic. but not the same model of course.

I've tried an RMC2 and a Budda side by side. There are differences, but which do you prefer. :D And you really can only hear the differences when they are side by side.

If you are going to hub37's place, I can drop by with the RMC2 should you wish to hear them side by side.

it's good to pit your shortlisted models side by side so that you can hear material differences. best to try them with your guitar as well 8)

as for the Budwah, i'll reiterate its offerings here- it's a vintage voiced pedal with midrange injection, nothing excessively modern. if you like the average Vox/ Dunlop models, this one will maybe renew your preference. i'm not a wah fan, but this pedal got me listening...

just for info, there's a reason why a $100 wah is $100 and why a $300+ wah is $300+

what kinda brainless comparison is that?

it's like telling me, oh the chicken rice stall at the void deck sells theirs for $1 when i bring the subject of $22 marina mandarin hotel chicken rice up.

please use your brains before you post.

Just got one of these babies today, an early birthday present from friends.

I have to say I've pretty much fallen in love with this little (or make that big) purple wonder. The sweep range isnt amazing but it keeps you locked into that "sweet spot" all the time, and doesn't run too far in either direction of the sound spectrum and leave you trailing off. I can't say much for its versatility, on account of the fact that I haven't really played around with it yet, but I can see some really workable tones coming out of it. Definitely a very different feel from my beat up old crybaby.

Plus points for the fact that it's built like a tank. It literally feels like it could survive a nuclear fallout.
