Bryan quits WGB

In a way, you guys are sure gonna ride along the waves of Daphne’s fame and popularity. Equals More money, More fans, More contacts.

Nothing negative though. It’s a good thing but it is like a desperate measure to some.

Desperate to be rockstars and make money to pay off whateva you guys have invested so far. By the look at what you have said in this forum, it seems a lot of money.

Well, its your band. Go ahead and enjoy with Daphne and friends.
Hope I wont need to wear plugs when she sings.

Don’t worry, I will join your fan club when you open one.

Daphne already has a fanbase and she already has contacts, and yes, it definitely does benefit us. But we also did pretty decently without Daphne last year. So I think it's fair to say that we didn't get Daphne because we need her fame or popularity, but it certainly doesn't hurt that she's already pretty well known. We would definitely have asked her if she's interested to sing with WGB even if she hadn't taken part in SI last year, because we already respected her as a singer and songwriter with her previous bands SIP and All Countries.

Also, despite Daphne's popularity, we don't expect her fans to become WGB fans since the genre is quite different from what they've heard her sing before. So we still have a lot of work cut out for us and a lot of convincing to do. We need to try and show WGB fans that Daphne is awesome, and we need to show Daphne's fans that WGB doesn't suck (i hope).

But to whoever still thinks they like WGB, many thanks from all of us in the band. We will do our best to live up to your expectations, because our expectations have already been met with Daphne. We believe we chose a singer who can carry the band the way we want it to go. :)

exactly my point. i wont expect daphne fans to like wgb, neither will i expect wgb fans to like daphne. it works both ways. either way though, you still lose some fans on both sides. fans who are pessimists, skeptics, who brush off the band over a single occurence.

i cant say i like the new wgb, i cant say i dislike them either. i guess we should all just stop jumping to conclusions until we actually see the band live with daphne. ive been a fan of wgb, and my intial reaction was like any other, that daphne doesnt suit the band. but like dharma said, we most of us have only seen the sg idol side of her, so we dont really know if she is not capable of fronting wgb.

and talking about losing fans, i think it works out equally with them gaining and losing fans. they will of course get more popular with daphne onboard, and whether thats a good or bad thing, remains to be seen.

i thought i heard daphne was already in a band with plainsunset's ronny before. something All Stars.

All Countries. They were awesome, super super tight band! It was before Daphne went into SI. As I understand it, they haven't been able to reform because everyone has other commitments.

actually I just mentioned that cos I don't know (only heard) daphne as a singapore idol (never watched sg idol before.) cos I think channel 5 and 8 sux and thought everyone should be aware she didn't start off as some "audition-er".

well we'll see.
dun mean to offend you.

i guess due to singapore idol, she's been seriously stereo-typed.
but i have heard her live once at some youth alive event, singing her own rock original or something. sounds pretty mainstream pop to me.

its all subjective at the end of the day.

one thing for sure, Daphne and WGB?
doesnt really paint a pretty picture in my head.

anyways all the best to WGB.

serialninja, when you guys(+1 gal) are ready to rock the stage, let me know. I will be there!

I got to see and listen for myself.

I think WGB needs to make it clear to SOFTies and especially ordinary members of the public before the start of any of their upcoming performances that they have known Daphne for a long time even before she entered singapore idol and she has been a great friend to them etc and are NOT riding on the wagon of superstardom....

Something like a disclaimer I guess....

Cause when the public knows that Daphne belongs to your band , first reaction from them would be that you guys are just making use of her as a shortcut to fame which we all know that that is not the case....

Hey, I know Christopher from SI lah. Maybe I should.. Ahah. Just kidding WGB fans and band alike. All the best to your future endeavours anyway.

WGB isn't obligated to suck up to anybody. All this controversy and whatnot is only going to help the band rise higher; Ronin would certainly approve.

hmmm.

i've seen some very strong views expressed here. i also have some reservations about the change but i think i'll 1st chk out the new WGB lineup live at a gig 1st before saying anything.

but daphne khoo.. when i hear her singing in the past i always can't help but cringe.

opps.
