Guys,
Anyone here listens to Brian Setzer? The DUDE of big band rock/rockability/swing/jazz/blues guitar! I got the album "The Dirty Boogie" by the Brian Setzer Orchestra and mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Beautiful swing jazz with a huge dose of explosive rockability... most of you would know that he covered Sleepwalk on that album... got it at a steal, 2nd hand (WTH would ANYONE in their right mind sell this off?!) @ $7.99. 8)

For those who don't know, you all would do well to check him out...

hahahahhahhah! i'm a huge fan too! i have the albums "Dirty Boogie" and "Vroom, Vroom, Vroom" too! he was from the rockabilly band Straycats. the Brian Setzer Orchestra actually have a full 20pcs (or more!) horn section when they performed live! he came out with an album "Ignite 'something'..." i can't remember, but its not as great imo...

love his slapback delay/echo and reverb sounds! woohooo!

p.s. he used to teach Marty Friedman some stuff!

His Gretsh is amazing... the tone is sweetness and when he kicks in his Tubescreamer, I wet my pants. 8) He is THAT cool.

he uses a tubescreamer? hehehehehheh... i didn't know that! i thot he overdrive his amps. i think Fender Bassmans or something... i love the way he uses his trem. subtle and beautiful! his signature Gretsch is documented as having thinner wall bodies then the standard ones....

I read up that he uses a TS... but well, it could be old news.... doesn't it feel better when a guitar hero uses a piece of gear you have? Kidding. :)

His whammy-ing is very interesting... bigsby ya?

I really enjoy his solos... pumped full of attitude and still within the blus/rockability/swing boundaries.

They revived rockabily back in the early 80's , love the song Stray cat strut . 3 man band , but made hell of a rockabilly sounds

cheers

hmmmmmm... heheheheheh...

i dunno if its actually a Bigsby. but its with the Gretsch, could be something with similar tech/spec.

yes, his solos is definitely something! but have to give kudos to the horn section too! its riotious! hehehehehehh...

I also love him too :)
Hsve the dirty boogie album and his dvd live in Japan. Wacky performance.
His band totally cool and hilarious :)

Setzer is very overlooked but not to the same extend as Danny Gatton/Roy Buchanan/Rory Gallagher. Note a large part of his sound is due to constant switching between playing with picks and his fingers. That is very difficult to emulate.
