Boxed in sound for vocals

Im recording at home, and the vocals seem so..at the front, whereas the rest of the band is at the back. AS if the vox were recorded over a premade mp3..tried EQing differnetly, dropping the volume...how to make them so..unsharp? :S Using and Sm58 though...

Perhaps a little stereo imaging or maybe phasing will help. Or a chorus effect? I doubt EQing will work in this scenario...

add some reverb and a touch of delay. this usually pushes the sound backwards into the soundfield.

dry vocals without reverb tend to stick out in your face.

try it.

Push up your high mids on eq for boxiness, roughly 3-5k Hz, then stick it in the mix with some mild reverb. For box in effect, also use a stereo imager to narrow the voice down.
