boss gt8/me50 or podxt

i have been playing guitar for arnd 1.5yrs. i was thinking of getting a multi effect.. thinking of getting either the gt8, me50 or podxt. Anyone is able to tell me the pros and cons about them? i heard that gt8 is comparable to the podxt but gt8 is difficult to use? i was thinking about the me50 but the difference in price of a 2nd hand me50 and gt8 is arnd 50 bucks.. can someone help me in this? thanks in advance :)
 
if you want simple and substantial pedal the me-50 is the way to go. own one and its serving me well.
however if you want more a gt-8 or podxt is the way to go.

from what i've read a gt-8 is complex. i've been doing researching on em (want one real bad) and i've got a 90+ over page manual which people posted on how to effectively use the pedal. i believe this pedal allows recording but its a bit tedious cos of the need to use a spdif cable.

i'm not so sure about the podxt. however the podx3live allows recording via a simple usb cable.

but i do know both the gt-8 and podxt allows patches which means downloading preset tones from the web and using them on your multi-fx. imo, if you already have a good amp and guitar and just want an efx without the need of recording me-50 is the way to go.

Go For the PODxt Live!!

Go for the podxt live, no mistake. I've got one for more than a year and it's just amazing. There are lots of updates and extras you can buy online to beef up the podxt! you can just download tones that others have configured for your own use...ie. if you are lazy to tweak to find the sound, just hook your system online and get your favourite artiste's tones!!! aint that great!!!!!tryst me, you will never need anything else. podxt live allows recording via usb as well.
 
haha, i'm in the same dilemma as the TS.
the only difference being mine is regarding bass efxs.

if i recall correctly. the podx3live has bass amps in it. i'm not too sure, you could check out the pod website.
 
haha okay. sorry but whats a spdif cable? :D anyway i'm using a laney 20 watt practice amp.. i planning to use the multieffect for gigs and such.. Currently, i think i may not be plugging it into my com. But, maybe in future i will.

Is the gt8 good for live performance? i have doubts about it. I heard from a few ppl that playing it through a PA system is better than playing through an amp.. is that true? why is it so?

By the way.. those patches can be deleted away or overwritten right? sorry for the noob Qn :D haha

i tried the podxt in city music b4.. i can't seem to get a nice tone.. maybe coz i duno how to tweak.. but i hear that the xt isn't really good for their effects? can i get a heavy distortion sound from it? i play mainly metal, rock and others.. currently i have the mt2 pedal. it is possible to use mt2 distortion with effects(delay,reverb) in the xt?instead of using the xt distortion?
 
a spdif cable is a cable which allows high quality audio transfer if i recall correctly or something in that line.
i heard that a gt-8 is better for amps while a podx3live is better for PA systems. imo, majority of us and most gigs uses amps. hence i'm voting for the gt-8. i'm not sure why, but imo the gt-8 has better effects or so i've heard. my me-50 has really sweet tones. but the podx3live has more preamps maybe thats why its better for PA systems?
errr, a patch can be deleted anytime. uploading a patch with a gt-8 is significantly harder and more costly as you need a usb to midi cable. unless you already have one, and you still need a spdif cable for recording. furthermore you also need to download programs to do recording.
for a podx3live i believe the recording and transferring of patches can be done through the simple usb cable provided. and it comes with gearbox which i believe allows recording also. not too sure.

lastly, a gt-8 has moree buttons. DAMNNN MOJO. :twisted:

i think the gt-8 has an effects loop which allows u to place your own effects into the signal chain. damn the cool. if you really want to know more i could send you the guide. or you go visit http://www.bossgtcentral.com/forum/ and find out more. hope this helps bro.
 
haha. u make me feel like getting the gt8.. :) i will look into them further after my o's!! 2 more wks.. hmm.. i just need them for live performance and practice now.. the guide? haha okay.. u want to send me via?

but back to topic,

i have not tried any multi efx before,
only the korg 1500.
so just to ask those multi efx users out there,
any cons to using them?
cons other than the sound quality. =]=]
 
haha. oh ya, my vote is for gt-8. but i don't know how good the podx3live is. i have't done much research on them. but if you really want to know more there's always google.
don't rely on my opinion too much. :-D
 
why settle for less when you can have the gt10?
lol im just bullshitting, but yea
the gt 8 gets the vote from me, i heard it through household speakers and it played like a concert venue
 
a gt-10 costs more. but you get more effects.
butttt i still prefer the gt-8 more, it has more knobs and its damn mojo. i doubt i'll use all the stuff in the gt-10. gt-8 too much already. my ME-50 serving me well.
distortion + delay + volume knob = tonal bliss.
 
more improvements i believe. the most outstanding difference which has been advertised the most on boss's website would be the ez tone.
for the exact specs on the differences you can check boss's website as i'm not too sure. but i know the bt-8 is black and mojo.

An SPDIF cable looks like a normal RCA cable (those red/white/yellow cables for R/L/Vid) but the cable and jacks are made of higher quality stuff. You can obtain one easier from any custom cable shops in sim lim sq/twrs, adelphi or funan.
 
POD is probably not for heavy stuff

Hi Milktea. POD is probably not that great for the heavy sounds you want, but I guess it's the same for all multi-fx. You cannot run away from looping some external distortion boxes for heavy sound. I hook up an MT-2 (just like yours) and a Jimi Hendrix wah-wah to the PODxt Live. But the POdxt really has extremely cool clean sounds! Maybe it's meant for much older folks (like me) and not youngsters like yourselves.
