okie guys,

i got a large 22 inch traditional ride and it great for jazz. it's a a freaking wide spread when u hit it!

Hi, not sure if you are still checking this site... but I have a Bosphorus Trad Masters 22" too! Yeah, it's great for jazz. But I also use it for recordings or big outdoor concerts, when I need a really great orchestral cymbal swell. Don't you just love the way it's so thin and bendable, hence the sound is warm and dark. I LIKE!!

I bought mine when I was living in the US; and it cost the same (after converting US$ to S$) as buying it here from Accent. So that's good to know. I also looked into buying them from a music store in Istanbul, Turkey and it's not worth it, cuz the selection is kept in some dingy attic storage space, it's really dusty and their selection is limited. Hope to head that way again and visit the factory itself. :D

i haven't really tried out any bos hats, but from opinions from those who have, they painted a really good picture of it!

im actually planning to grab a pair of hhx groove hats, or if possible 14" istanbul trad hats frm nigel @ drmp! haha...

bro any sound clips and pictures of your ride?

hey, the Istanbul Trad Hats (Mel Lewis) are really nice. Thin, Crisp and the sound produced when played real soft and with your feet, is definitely gratifying. And I also find that when you play them semi-open it's got a nice trashy wash... great for recordings :D

ooh man i just love that nice crisp feel of them.......i've tried the mel lewis one quite awhile ago but it didn't seem that gd if i remember but tht was awhile ago. i'm want to try the new stanton moore series though. new audrey i was thinking abt getting a semester at uni of new orleans for my jazz sem, wld u recommend it?

Hmmm... I'm not familiar with U of New Orleans. Depends who's teaching there I guess... If you only have one semester... i guess The Collective in New York is good. Or if you would rather be in the west coast, there's PIT (under the umbrella of Musician's Institute).

The question is, do you have to, or really want to go to a school? Cuz for short term, it might be better to go on a tourist visa and study with a specific teacher. The advantage to this, is you go there and get what you need specifically and not get lost in the school syllabus. And it doesn't mean you won't get to play with people, cuz there are jam sessions. My friend, a jazz pianist, took this route and she's one of the best jazz pianists in Singapore now. You'll have to find your own housing though... If you need some names, i can recommend some.

You can also look into attending a Jamey Abersold camp. That's short term, you meet loads of people from all over, at all ages and get to take lessons from very good players. And it's got a great environment of jazz 24 hours for x number of days.

Grrr...still can't believe how cheap you got them at !!! =op

Am on the hunt for a pair of those for myself. Might just take a trip to thanksgiving-bird-land to get a whole truckload of cymbals at one shot !

You can get Bosphorus Cymbals at Accent Music on Jalan Jurong Kechil...

or... you can go to Istanbul, Turkey...
