Boost crunch tone

hey guys, if I'm looking for a booster pedal to make my crunch tone thicker, ballsier, but also natural and warm sounding, what would your recommendations be?
Thanks in advance. :)

Crunch bar? the one form 7-11? Yumm gotta love that chocolate.

But a DS-1 or MT-2 might do well as a boost, with little gain and using level to boost, EQs to taste :D/

Crunch tone as in rhytmn tone right?
if u did a boost...then wat u gonna do for solo..?use the same tone?
i think best to get the basic tone right..
What Moo recommend would do the trick..but..i would not go for that..

boost too much then u hv to deal with feedback problem.
wat pedal are u using? Eq ..or an Emg perhaps..

just a suggestion...

Can anyone enlighten me what is the difference between crunch and distortion?

For booster, many have reccomended ts-9 and modding SD-1. Is there any other pedals that works well as booster, DS-2?

yup I mean a rhythm crunch tone.
I'm looking for a booster pedal to put in front of my GT-2.
I heard good stuff about the sd-1, od-3, tubescreamer and some others.
which one do you guys reckon would give me the tone I described in the first post?

the pedals you mentioned are drive-based units, if you already like you current distortion tone, just want it to be louder/ thicker (like i do), you'd do well to check out the MXR Micro Amp which i'm using...

If u want warmth tone,GT2 not the way....Look for tubes amp or pedal. And i mean the real 12AX7 tubes....ElectroHarmonix have one or Mesa Twin/Bottle rocket pedal....

I don't man...though I'm very tempted to get the sd-1. I gathered from Boss' website that the sd-1 is the most natural sounding of its overdrive pedals, and I'm hoping it can offset the harshness of the GT-2 to give me a well-rounded tone. I'm not sure if it will work out though.

Vai,u can try and run yr GT2 through the amps effect Return loop of the amp.Doing this skips the preamp section of the amplifiers..And u r using only the amps poweramp...It will take some harshness of yr tone away

eh, don't call me Vai lah...somemore in screaming red fonts, damn malu.

thanks for your input, but unfortunately, my amp doesn't have a function like that. I don't wish to stick to a pure GT-2 tone anyway, so a booster pedal is still the way to go for me.

Hmmm.... you must understand the GT2 sounds harsher because of its modern voicing. Have you tried using the Classic mic? And lower your high on the GT2 just a bit... on the brit setting esp. Gets pretty smooth for crunch.

You CAN try to smoothen the tone out with an SD-1 with the SD-1's tone rolled down...

Do note, when you use a booster pedal, its always, more vol/level and less gain so you wouldn't have too much noise. And the gain on your GT2 might have to be lower too. Note I said, wouldn't have too much. ;) You can have no noise but that might not be enough gain for you.

I've tried the sd-1 but I prefer the OD-3 as a booster. It adds much more sustain than the sd-1 and imo it sounds much warmer and thicker. The marketing gimmicks of the boss website should be read with a pinch of salt! cause I preferred the OD-3 as it boosts my tone much better. I've yet to test the ts-9 re-issue but from what I've gathered from some who have tried it, they say its over-rated.

My suggestion is to purchase the market rate prices 2nd hand deals of the OD-3 ($80) and the Ts-9 ($100? perhaps more due to over-rated demand), test them out and resell the one you don't like at the price you bought it.

The DS-1 will not give you nice crunch tone. :) Don't go that way. Don't you have an SD-1 or TS9DX? ;)

Acutally .... the modded ds-1 can give you a crunch tone ... if you got the Ta71xxxap chip ....

But ,,, if crunch and boost is wat you're looking for ...
i'd advice getting a 2nd hand Metalzone and modd the mids with a Seeing-Eye, by Randolf ~!
IT's my FAVOURITE PEDAL ~! from warm overdrive ~
TO really chrunchy distortion thrugh really really overdriven tubes (even on a solidstate amp) kinda sound like .... stack... ~!
very hard to describe ... but you've got the eq controls on the MT2 also .. so you can really get ur sound ~!

sorry dude,
the ubermetal sound very compressed and digital to me..~
i guess it boils down to personal preferance ...~ but you gotta admit .. the sad part is you've gotta have a separate adaptor for it, in ur lineup ~
