Blackheart Amps

blackhearts only have a clean channel lol. i've pushed my metal monster into the blackheart and its awesome. i'll try to get some samples up soon.

Thanks for the input, but i've tried the seventheaven into it and it dint really work to my liking :( I think i need to change the tubes or sth....and maybe mod it for higher headroom. It seems to break up quite easily.

Oh well, moving on to a better amp is next on my list...

Ized perhaps u may wanna change the tubes to a set of JJs, mullards or Tung Sols, and u can try mixing them ariound to your desired effect. Cause when i changed mine the tonal character of the amp changed alot, i am currently running a reissue mullard 12ax7 and a JJ EL84, i am able to get spankly nice cleans and slightly higher head room. The overdriven tone opened up and is less muffled compared to the stock tubes. Hope this will help u, and if u wanna go further then go for the mod kits, saw someone selling on SOFT awhile back, cheers!

Has anyone tried BOTH the Little Giant and the Epi VJ? Any thoughts on how the 2 of them compare?

I dunno, my stock Epi VJ sounds pretty boxy and muddy to me, compared to a typical small-wattage fender-style amp. I'm wondering if i should experiment with new tubes.

Hmmm i find that the blackheart lg compared to the epi vj, is more open sounding and more chimy, although the vj has more warmth. Hope this help, but both amps are meant to be modded to get the best out of them so why not try the mods for ur vj first, cheers!

a killer ant.......

Just reserved mine from yamaha! Getting it when I re appear back from europe somewhere mid december, BH5H! The staff there are wonderful, they let Ized and me fiddle with that amp for over 2 hours!

I also just took the plunge and bought the blackheart. Wanted to get the bogner alchemist but my mum was super against it. Haiz... In the end I had to play some clapton, blues and soft stuff to convince her that the blackheart is a blues man amp so I could get it.

Now I have a major problem, how do you guys get a decent overdrive tone for this amp, also can it do metal? What pedals are recommended to drive this amp to tonal bliss?

Well Newguy, the bogner alchemist is really nice but the price is really NICE too! Keke, anyway do not be disappointed with the BH that u got, if u think it is an inferior amp, i can guarantee it is not, in fact it is one of the best bang for buck tube amp u can find in the market now. As for decent overdrive tone, u gotta crank the baby up, thats the only way my friend, and u will realise the nice tones the BH can offer (try to do it in 3 watt mode cause it can get pretty loud)! It can't do metal thats for sure but u can try putting any dist/od/metal pedal at ur disposal in front of it, and just tweak ard, i am sure u can get a nice metal tone out of it. Hope this helps, cheers!

I need to get a dis/od pedal first. Meanwhile I'll try to crank it up. BTW, do you guys mod the blackheart? Like change the ss rectifier and all the internal circuitry? Saw some guy who did it on youtube and I was impressed by it. He can have quite nice heavy tones through the blackheart.

There r some people out there that does mods fir BH amps, goose and seekz do fine mods imo. I will be modding mine soon, but u can try swapping tubes first and get different tube flavours in ur BH.

yeah i feel bad about it la...but the guy was so nice...had a fun time doodling on it with the seventheaven, jackson and fender and all...

Wahaha Ized....I am just wondering how the 7th will sound through my BH when it is modded by goose keke and through my soon arriving 2X12 ceriatone cab!

Nice killer ant.

BTW anyone knows where I can get tubes in singapore? Also must I bias the amp if I'm changing the same kind of tubes like a 12ax7 with a better quality 12ax7?

It's available at Yamaha,Plaza Singapura. Price cheaper than US because they are having 15% discount now. The sound is awesome but you need good cabinets.

Ok, I tried cranking it up and it's pretty loud for something so small. It does hit into classic rock territory but is far from metal and hard rock. Was thinking of getting some pedals to supplement the sound. Did anyone try running a tubezone in front of the amp? How's the sound like? (I couldn't find anything on youtube) Is it better than running something like a radial plexi with 12ax7 tubes in it?

tube-laden pedals isn't the sure formula in getting good tones, especially pairing it up with a tube amp. IMO get a (drive/ distortion) pedal you like & include add-ons, chances are you'd sound better this way.
