Cradle of Filth?

Cradle of filth is NOT black metal

By adding  are you saying that COF really isn't black metal (in which case, what are they) or, you are saying they are, but you don't like it so much (perhaps because they are unintentionally a parody of the genre) that you don't count it as such?

I keep telling myself that they aren't black metal  anyways they're more to the gothic side but with so many genres n sub-genres mixing nowadays....i dont really noe wat to call them if they're not black metal

Heres some definitions off the net:

Almost a style of death metal the differences with Black Metal are that the singing is commonly done in a shrieking manner. It used to be the case that all Black Metal bands had black lyrics, this is no longer the case. Increasingly the term is being applied to music more abrasive than death. To some degree, and in a different sense than doom, black metal is often atmospheric.
disemia.com/creation/definiti.html

Black metal is a musical genre, related to styles of heavy metal, such as death metal. Some black metal fans, musicians and critics use a strict definition of the genre, though others view this as needlessly limiting and view black metal as an artistic movement than a sub-category of popular music.

black metal

abigail, abyssos, children of bodom, necrophobic, ancient rites, anorexia nervosa, azrael, blackseed boys, black funeral, covenant, dark funeral, darkthrone, dimmu borgir, nile, immortal, impaled nazarene, marduk, moonspell, necrophegia, satyricon, Siebenbürgen....

best ones... anorexia nervosa, nile, abyssos and dimmu borgir in my opinion.. long-time favourites!

I find it strange that some of the bands you guys mention i wouldn't not even consider black metal? For example i dun consider Cradle of Filth black metal....a bit too much on the gothic n melodic death side. Children of Bodon too.....i think more like melodic death with a touch of neo-classical. Any one else here categorise some of these bands differently? :?:

PS: Hoobastank is SO black! \m/
